Hi Ally,

It's one of the good choices, if you have a
good niche.

But what I don't like with Commission Junction
if your account is dormant (no sales in 6 months)
they deactivate your account or charge you
some fees if you have a positive balance.

I believe Clickbank does this too. You can refer it here:
clickbank.com/accounting.html#A15

Linkshare, Kolimbo, ShareASale - my dormant accounts
with them are still active.

Aly,

I know what you mean.

Just concentrate on one niche
and do a lot of article marketing.

I believe CJ is a great source of affiliate products. ClickBank too. Yes it becomes a problem if your program is dormant, however, I have a solution for this. In line with "Honest Affiliates", I only promote programs that I use myself. While promoting programs I use, I buy it with my own link give it a whirl. This saves my account. If it's a flop, nobody but me loses on the return fees. If it's great, then I promote it full speed. Good luck!

Here's what I found when I was at CJ's Help Center (FAQ):

How can I prevent my account from being closed for non-activity?

How can I prevent my account from being closed for non-activity?

Answer:

Commission Junction deactivates accounts for lack of performance
(dormant account policy) if they have not generated any commissionable
transactions for six consecutive months.

To prevent your account from being deactivated, you can make a
purchase from one of your advertisers to generate a commission.

If you cancel the purchase, return the merchandise, use an invalid
credit card or the transaction is reversed for any other reason it will
not count as a commissionable transaction.

The other challenge that I've experienced with Commission Junction is that if they DO de-activate your account, they've proven quite unhelpful (at least in my case) at getting the account re-activated!

I had not looked into CJ again since I tried to set up and account and they informed me that I needed to be generating over $50k per month in sales. Hate to blow my "Guru" status here, but I do not sell $50K per month.

Kim,

Let me guess, you wouldn't get out of bed for a "mere" $50k a month...!

I have avoided CJ at all costs for a long time ... Don't get me started.

My experience with Clickbank is that in real life was that I received commissions which I should not have gotten per their rules. It seems to play out a bit better in real life than it does on their written rules (which come across a bit grim!)

You'll see a lot of people knocking Clickbank, but they tend to be people that aren't making more than the occasional sale. Those people who are making a good living through them can't sing their praises loudly enough!

My recommendation would be to stick with Clickbank (or Paydotcom.com) until you're established and have significant traffic coming to your site, THEN consider adding CJ to your business model.

Regards,
-John.

Yup, would agree with jlandells on that.
It's important once you've signed up with any affiliate program that u take action in getting that 1st sale, because that's where you can push on and not let your account be in a dormant state!

Cheers.

I can add that for beginning marketers, Amazon can be one of the easiest and fastest ways to start getting commissions, providing that you are in the right niche. If a person visits Amazon through your site, you get credit for any purchase they make, even if it has nothing to do with your original affiliate link. I have made a lot of sales through Amazon that way - people enter through my site looking for products in my niche, then remember that they need new clothes, vinegar, and a stereo - so they buy that instead lol.

I wonder if it's dependent on your niche? My sales have come slowly but consistently through Clickbank, but I've never sold anything through Amazon so far.

I agree about all the info regarding CJ. I used to use them, but when I got de-activated, they proved unhelpful in getting back up.

There are a few other programs that are like that, so I stick with Clickbank or other JVs.

This is all useful but it is also worrying as I'm sure I may have joined either cj or clickbank at some point and not generated commissions - if I go back will clickbank allow me to re-activate my account or could I maybe open a new one in a different email address?

Are there any ways around this or am I doomed forever???

And John - if you're reading this - I'm already half way through my first read of the book so pushing onwards and upwards!

Hey Sandra,

Actually I doubt very much Clickbank would have de-activated your account. Either way, it's not a big deal. You can sign up for more than on Clickbank account. A lot of people have several...I got a couple myself. It's shouldn't be a problem.

Hope that helps...

Dav

Thanks for that Dav - I was panicking a little there as I have hit rock bottom having to borrow from the kids accounts for my MOT and I think that's when you really go all out to succeed so I never find myself in that position again!!!

I'm raring to go!!!

THanks again.

Hi Anna,

May I know why you have avoided CJ? Any bad experiences aside from the ones discussed in this thread? Would like to learn from your experience.

Thanks!
