A great tragedy has occurred.

'What is this?' you may well ask ...

It's the closure of the worlds best newspaper the 'News of the World'

You're probably thinking its the loss of jobs for the News International employees.

Yes, that is indeed a tragedy, but it's not the one I am alluding too.

The greater tragedy I am referring too is the loss of chances to win the News of the World bingo. New bingo cards were launched last week and were designed to run for 13 weeks. The first set of numbers was printed in last Sundays newspaper; the second set will be published this Sunday.

But what will happen to the remaining 11 bingo cards if there is no newspaper printed. I, and thousands if not millions of others, will be deprived of the chance of winning.

What will we now do each Sunday without our News of the World bingo or indeed the newspaper to read. Life on Sundays will never be the same.

RIP 'News of the World - an old well loved friend who will be missed by us all.'

Last week I decided to upgrade my home network to gigabit ethernet.

Ordered an 8 port switch for downstairs and a 5 port switch for upstairs, so far so good. Order accepted and delivery arranged as expected.

Now needed to upgrade my cable modem to upgrade from 20 megabit broadband to 30 megabit broadband and improve the wireless capability and at the same time upgrade the settop box for cable TV. Checked my cable suppliers website to check for their best deals; again so far so good.

Went to the page to upgrade my service package.

This is where the fun started. Received an error message that I couldn't change the service package online so would have to phone then.

Rang the number given, and after keying in all the options my call was eventually roted through to their offshore service centre (India, I think). Explained the customer service advisor what I wanted. Was quoted around £100 for activation/delivery/installation charges and an additional £10 a month on the service charges. I explained that their website was quoting free activation/installation etc. and a net reduction on the monthly payment. Customer Service Adviser tells me that the prices I see online are not available so have discussion on why prices they offer online, and in an advertisement in that days newspaper are not available. As we were clearly getting nowhere I asked to speak with a superviser/manager. Put on hold for 5 minutes, mabe longer, and then told that the manager was not currently available but that they would call me back within 2 hour.

2 hours pass, then 3, 4, etc. but no call back.

Next morning rang my cable supplier again, was put through to another Customer Service Advisor again in the offshore call centre. Went over the previous days conversations. This time I am able to get the deals that I can see on the Internet and in their newspaper advertisements, but have to pay a £20 courier charge for new broadband modem to be delivered. Ask if the new settop box for the TV will be in the same courier delivery and am told that to get this I will have to order this online. Explain that the reason I was ordering by phone was that it they wouldn't accept an online change of service. However I agreed to be put on hold while I try to order online. After several attempts I get through to the online order and payment page and then hit another snag; it now won't accept my account details and returns a message saying that there is an error. Key in my details again, same error message. Go back to the phone only by now the service centre has cleared the call.

Ring again ,this time the call is routed to their UK call centre. Go through the previous conversations and difficulties and then find that none of my order has been processed.

This time I manage to get what i wanted, at the prices I can see online and in the newspaper and get then to agree that I would only be charged a single courier charge as all the new equipment would be delivered together.

What should have been available online and taken a few minutes to arrange ended up with going online twice, to no effect, make three phone calls lasting about 2 hours over two days before I was able to get the upgrade I wanted.

Well, if nothing else I was able to keep 3 people employed, or 4 if you include the non-existant manager who never returned the call.

Time for another rant from me.

Last night my fiancee went to the Transport for London website to check the travel times to get to Charing Cross to attend a training course today.

The directions she was given were either:

Take bus to Bromley South railway station, get train to Victoria, take Victoria line underground to Oxford Circus, change at Oxford Circus and take underground to Charing Cross. Result is 1 bus, 1 train and 2 underground trips and time taken is 81 to 100 minutes depending on waiting for connections, walking etc.

Take bus to Bromley South railway station. get train to Orpington (opposite direction) change train and take train service to Charing Cross. Result is 1 bus and 2 train trips and time taken 60 to 85 minutes depending on waiting for connections, walking etc.

Now my fiancee is Canadian and does not know her way around London that well so she would probably opted for route number 2 as it was quicker and involved less interchanges.

Route we actually took was bus to Petts Wood railway station, train to Charing Cross. Result was 1 bus and 1 train trip and time taken was 40 minutes.

I just hope that by the time we host the Olympics in 2012 Transport for London's website will have its act together otherwise thousands upon thousands of tourists here to visit the games will be send on many thousands of unneccesary trips in and around London.

I liked the way that when asked a question he clearly did not want to answer he just said nothing and far from him feeling uncomfortable by the silence it was the reporter who was.

Several people who already make blogs on the forum have expressed their opinion that this is a much neglected area of the forum. I would be one of the first to agree with this.

What I hadn't realised till I looked at the figures was just how underutilised the blog area is.

If I've done the maths correctly, well actually put the correct figures into a spreadsheet, then the blog section is more of a backwater than I had originally thought.

The figures relating to the main part of the forum are:

13645 threads containing 114103 posts, an nd onlyaverage of 8.4 posts per thread.

And for the blog area are:

386 blogs containing 679 comments, an average of 1.7 comments per blog.

This shows that there is only 1 blog written for every 35 threads created, and only 1 blog comment for every 160 posts made.

We have tried in the past to get more use made of blogs but have never had success.

And even when we do get blogs created we receive very few comments.

What do you thing would be good topics to create a blog about?

To my mind one of the best threads I have read recently was that created by JCme on signing up to GoClickCash http://www.honestworkfromhomesuccess...lick-cash.html and threads like this, where we get an honest review of a product would be good for blogging.

Lets have your opinions on what would be good things to include as blogs.

The site owner was losing money. His site was no longer available.

On checking the website url with whois http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp it shows that the web site owner had let the domain name expire.

The domain name registrar had sent the website owner the required domain name renewal notices, but because the site owner had changed his email address, he never received the notices.

So, when the domain name expired, the web site was no longer available.

Fortunately, no one else had registered the newly expired domain name, and the site owner was able to get it back.

But often it doesn't always work out that way.

Lesson learned: Make sure to periodically review and update your contact info (especially your email address) at your domain name registrar. Otherwise, you risk missing an important domain expiration notice and possibly losing your domain name.

There may be a chance to get the domain name back, but this is likely to cost you significantly more cost than the first time around.

My suggestion: set up an automatic recurring renewal.

Why?

Do none of these members exist?

Is there something wrong with the coding?

I know that in the past others have commented in the mods area that not one of the members whose birthdays were on a particular day had made a single post. Why bother giving your birthday if you aren't going to bother to participate in the forum?

Overall 54 members and 743 guests, but if you add the figures forum by forum it shows 22 members and 273 guests.
So what are the other 32 members and 470 guests doing?

Digging a bit deeper I could only find 17 members doing other activities.

At present the highest number of blogs written by any single member is 42. (Well done Etta).
When it comes to comments the highest number of comment received by any member is 101 (again these are Etta's blogs, so this represents an average of only 2 comments per blog) 54 out of 134 members who have posted blogs have received no comments whatsoever.

Think of Information Overload like it is a endless jigsaw puzzle,

How do you solve it?

Open the box, and what do you see? Piece after piece after piece, Some are picture side up, some blank side up. So many pieces what do you do?

What next? Turn them all picture side up, Now at least the blanks have gone. How do they fit together?

You start to sort through them, you group pieces by colour and information by topic. What next?

You need a plan. For the jigsaw this will be the picture on the lid. For information it may be a set of instructions, a flow chart. or merely a collection of thoughts and ideas.

Still too much information, so you start to focus. You collect all the likely pieces of jigsaw or information, you consult your plan, you experiment with the pieces and see how they fit together. You put the pieces that don't yet fit to one side for further consideration later.

Gradually over time you have correctly assembled a section of the jigsaw or information and now have a topic.

You repeat the process and build up further topics, at first in isolation, and later you are able to join the topics together.

Your understanding will increase as you link the topics together and can envisage the'big picture'

With the jigsaw you know when you are nearing completion, the number of pieces was finite, those pieces you set aside for further consideration are now fitting in, similarly with information you are putting the pieces together so that you understand the process.

With the jigsaw you end up with no pieces left, hopefully the picture is complete with no pieces missing. With information you have put the pieces together and now have an end to end process. You have a logical start and a logical end. How you get from beginning to end may vary, everything may flow in a strict linear fashion step A leads to step B, then step C until you reach the end. On the other hand part way through the process there may be alternative routes but in the end you reach the destination.

With information you will always get more information, more thoughts, more ideas. What you do with them is up to you, You either try to stick with what you know and what works for you; or you evolve and constantly evaluate new information and how this can affect the end to end process

With the Internet and in particular with Internet Marketing things change so often you have to evolve your processes; 'Google' changes the rules, a new version of the software is released, new software is produced that automates a previously manual process, the way you find and interact with your customers changes, your constraints change (when you start you make have been constrained by cash, or lack of expertise) as you develop your constraint is more likely to become time.

If you choose to stick with the 'status quo' what will happen? Your results will suffer; your processes will cease to work; your income will decline. By choosing to accept new information and evolving your processes you will continue to prosper.

something that will lead you through the Internet Marketing minefield

something that will show you were to step, and what you should avoid
