I hope this fits the topic...
I have an idea and I am wondering if it is viable.
I was thinking about creating a website and getting it hosted for free (even if it's ad-supported) while I build it up and direct traffic to it. It would probably be a site where people could download my photos for free and I would ask them to link to my site in exchange for using my photos. (My photos are fine for screen savers but nothing I would really try to sell, I'm not that good!

)
Then later when I am really ready to use it, and add affiliate links, I would switch over to paid web-hosting. By then I might have written some ebooks which I could also sell from the same site. But I would have a bit of a "head start" as I would have already been building up traffic to the domain name, via forums etc.
Of course my reason for this is I don't want to spend the monthly fee on it yet! But later I could.
Any input? For that matter, anyone know a good place to get free webhosting (maybe I pay for domain name and the rest is ad-supported?) Any pro's and cons I should know about? Do search engines penalize ad-supported sites horribly?
Thanks...
