Just wanted to add my two-pence worth.

Some years back I was doing a basic Dreamweaver course at my local adult education center and had the oppertunity of buying Dreamweaver MX at a very greatly reduced rate. (Dreamweaver offer substantial discounts to people in education so if you are thinking of buying and are in anyway involved in education it is well worth of checking out. It's walking a fine line but if your children are studying computers they would qualify, I think) So for the moment I'll stick with Dreamweaver.

You are right though it is one hell of a monster

Dreamweaver is definitely the way to go if you want to be able to change and tweak every aspect of your site.

XSitePro is good for those who don't know any HTML coding or have no desire to learn it. But it is limited on tweaking

My first web design software was Notepad.

I took a FrontPage class, but for the first six weeks, we were forced to design sites strictly in HTML. While frustrating, I am glad I know how to directly tweak the code to get the results I want.

Then I studied Dreamweaver. The learning curve was greater than I had exected, but I learned to appreciate the software, and never looked back. IMHO, it is the best web design tool out there.

I discovered XSitePro when I started building niche and affiliate websites. Dreamweaver sites take a lot of time for me to build.

With XSitePro, I can build a great looking SEO optimized site within a couple of hours. While Dreamweaver is still my favorite program, I am using it less and less as XSitePro is such an efficient tool.
