Joomla woes... 2007/03/02 06:49
Wow, started using Joomla a little while ago. Talk about user-unfriendly.

Anyone have any resources as to how to use joomla in a simple manner?

I want to be able to click and drag frames to where I want them displayed. I also want to be able to change the site color scheme. Is neither easily done with joomla?

I have found myself pigeon-holded into searching for a pre-built joomla template. Really, is there nothing I can do to take control of how my joomla site behaves through a WYSIWYG editor?

please tell me that there is a way to simply drag a module on the page, to where I want it to display, and that the entire site color scheme can be changed with a simple color code in one area or another.

I just installed joomla myself this weekend so I have not had the time to look at the backend configuration yet. You should be able to reorder and reposition the modules on the page via the site administration menu. I believe that it will be Site>Template Manager>Module Manager. This screen will display all the modules present, their current order and position and will allow you to edit such. In terms of the overall color, there will be main configuration files/styles/xml pages that define the common elements of the template/site. The main joomla site has a pretty rich forum that I have not looked at yet but their should be some searchable threads on this very question.

Changing colours in your joomla template will mean either editing the template.css file (for text and background colours) or editing the images in the images folder.

You may be able to change the CSS styles in a WYSIWYG editor, but I prefer to edit the code directly.

TIP: If you can't find a Joomla template you like, you could also look at Mambo templates. There are a large number available free and a lot of them work with Joomla with no tweaking at all!

I've purchased a lot of great joomla templates from Joomlashack.com. I think they look really nice, professional and modern. I've also changed the colors for the forum template that you are seeing here. I changed them through the css files. It's kind of difficult to explain how to do it. But, I think you might find a really good template at joomlashack.com. They also have totally free templates which look awesome as well. Let us know what template you decide on and if you need any help with the editing. A lot of templates now come with multiple color choices. You specify what color you want to be the default by going to the Templates Manager in your joomla administration, Site Templates: then go to the template and click edit html (or it may be in the css) but there are only two files to choose from.

About joomla user-friendliness - I think it'll just take a little time for you to get used to it.
