Should I use Wordpress as Joomla? 2007/03/20 11:28

I have been using Wordpress since reading Honest Riches, and set up my blog. The link is below.
Now I am starting to build another site. This site however will be a conventional one.
As I am used to Wordpress and like it so far...should I use it to build and run a normal website?
I know it's possible, but not sure if it will be good to do so, especially with regards to maintaining the site.
Just like to seek the opinion of anyone who is experienced in using CMS / building websites.

Hi! First, your wordpress site looks awesome. I really like the template you are using. It's great that you are continually updating it - it will pay off (search engines).
Personally, Wordpress was the first CMS I've ever used and I wouldn't have used it if it weren't for my brother. He praises it constantly. His SEO firm he works for uses it religiously too. But, then one day I came upon Joomla and decided to use it.
Here are the differences I've noticed:
- Wordpress does not come installed with all sorts of functions and features; you must add plugins (and search for them and sometimes they do not work, although many do)
- Joomla is preinstalled with a HUGE range of features which I like (who's online, inline frames, latest news, etc.) and also has really cool free extensions to increase the capabilities of your site (I believe more so than wordpress).
- IMPT: Joomla has an area for each content item so you can add custom Descriptions and meta tags (and the title becomes the title of the page). But, Wordpress does not. I created a wordpress plugin so that it will have these capabilities - which is awesome (but you still must be able to follow the readme to install it - not everyone can play around with code, etc.) Joomla has that feature built-in.
Personally, I LOVE joomla now. But,I also use wordpress. I just love the design of joomla sites and the layout - and the features. At first, I was quite overwhelmed with the admin area but you will notice that you get used to it and will understand it all after playing around with it.

Hi Holly!
Thanks for the compliments about my site!
I decided to continue using Wordpress though. So far Wordpress has been flexible enough to meet my needs, and I have spent considerable time finding out what works and what doesn't. The folks over at Wordpress.org has also stated that Wordpress is good at CMS too, when I posted this question over there.
Most importantly...I not really into learning another system from the beginning again.
Thanks again though!
