free website 2008/01/03 00:02
Hi,
I'm a real newbie here and need help.

I need to set up a website but can not afford to pay blue host for hosting in advance.

Is it a good idea to get a free website, hosting and domain where i think they advertise on your site? And can i put my links on there as well?

Also i have been trying for ages to click on to Holly's free website review site setup and are unable to. Does the review site also need to have hosting with blue host?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi kpamh,

Yes, either way you look at it, you would need hosting. I'm not even sure if Holly is running the free website review site thing anymore. She might be just having a server problem or something right now.

And unfortunately, it is not recommended to use the Free sites with advertising all over them. It takes away from your target audience to much. It's more for their benefit unfortunately.

There are many ways to start for free though. Holly has quite a few ways outlined in her book.

Hope that helps

Hi kpamh and welcome!

If you want to set up a free website without all of the advertising all over it, try http://www.weebly.com/. It's about as close to having your own independent website as I've seen. You can add the content you want and even as many pages as you want.

I've played with it a little and really don't know much about the SEO aspect of it but it is pretty neat to use.

http://www.squidoo.com/ has google adsense on it and you are limited to just the single page but they do the SEO for you which is a great help. Google really seems to like Squidoo.

Davin's right about Holly's book having a lot of ways to start for free, you can use some of her methods to get up the start up money for your own hosting. If Holly is still running the free website offer through Cheekyo with a years worth of Bluehost, I would highly recommend it when you get the money, she did my website and I am extremely happy with it. Here's a link to it if you'd like to check it out:

Hope this helps ,
