Finding RELEVANT keywords 2006/11/16 15:47

Once you have researched and decided on the main keyword or keyphrase for your site, it is worth typing it into google with a tilde in front of it to find other relevant keywords.
In the results, Google will then highlight in bold any the words it feels are related (or relevant) to your keyword.
e.g. if you search ~internet marketing
You'll notice that Google reckons that "web site promotion" is relevant, but "online marketing" is not.
A big part of SEO is in putting relevant content on your site. Use this technique to make sure that what YOU think is relevant is the same as what Google thinks is relevant.

-Mark.I just tried that both in their search engine and in the keyword tool. The search engine only bolded the same words used in the search box, and the keyword tool didn't recognize the term. Could you (or someone else) be a bit more specific about how to use this tip? Has google changed this ability? Did I do something wrong?

This can sometimes happen. Google doesn't have alternatives for every single keyphrase in it's database.
e.g. If you type in "~drag racing"
All of the bold keyphrases are for "drag racing" until you get down to about page 10 or so. Then you find "drag race" and "drag racer" come up in bold, BUT NOT "drag strip" or "dragster" or "Top Fuel", even though to most people those terms are obviously linked.
Conversely, If you search "~dragster racing" then "Hot Rod" shows up in bold but "Drag" does not! All I'm saying is that Google lumps certain keywords together and decides that they are relevant to each other, and you should pay attention to that.
If you write an article about "Drag Racing" there is no point using the phrase "Dragster" in it as Google doesn't notice the relevance. Stick to calling it a "Drag Racer" for that article.
Likewise, if you're writing about "Dragster Racing" you can, and should, include references to "Hot Rods".
It works for a very large number of keyphrases, but not all.

Mark thanks for the tip. I have been doing keyword searching and sometimes I don't understand the results - or I think I don't, or have the whole thing backwards...I'm a little dyslexic, but sometimes I think I reverse a whole concept. Or if it's simple, I'm thinking I've missed something.

Hey Mark
It is an old post of you but I find it today and think that it may help me.
I have tried so many times but every time I find the exact keyword in bold what I have typed there in google box.
Can you help me little bit by providing screen shots.
Thank you in advance.
