Latest buzz on Google's ranking algorithm 2007/03/20 13:07
I get real dizzy every time i visit seo forums.

Even more so after i've discovered that the latest buzz going around the seo/sem community is Google's latest patent for its new ranking algorithm.

I've learned quite a few things which include:

Google will no longer give as much weight to Keyword density as before;

Having thousands of links still won't be enough,if you don't meet Google's latest algorithm change;

Google is putting in more effort to reduce duplicate content on the web(yes,that includes your non-exclusive articles that you have submitted to article directories).

So how do we go about this?

One way that I could think of is,as far as possible to build websites with unique & original content.This could be done by rewriting at least 25-30% of your PLR articles(if you're using them)as well as articles for submission to the directories or if you can afford it engage professional writers altogether.

If anyone has any other solutions or thoughts on this please feel free to share.

Yes, I heared about that algorithm change too. One reason they did this were the "google bombs" which don't work anymore. They must have done something that the spider follows the links and looks if the keyword appears on the site to which the link goes to. Don't know if it is like that but that's how I would have programmed it...

I haven't heared about the thing with the keyword density yet, is there any more information that you know of?

Googles algorithm change isn't exactly all that new. It's just that it's only recent that they have admitted to these changes. Charles Heflin has been teaching this for at least around 8 or 9 months from his site SEO2020. What were talking about here is Latent Semantic Indexing. Charles has been teaching that in many cases a well siloed site, with excellent content can outrank and beat sites many times without the need for a ton of links, and beating out sites with high page rank as well.

Latent Symantec indexing in general is understanding that there could be up to thousands of phrases or synonyms of a keyword or site theme, and google will look to see if content has a lot of these different phrases etc. Which is why we can really take theme bleeding a lot more seroiusly.

Now just because Google isn't paying so much attention to keyword density etc, doesn't mean that some of the other search engines aren't still looking at this. To be on the safe side, I would still suggest, optimizing your site as we have come to believe. As far as I know Google won't penalize you on this, it's just that they won't be paying as much attention to this. I'm talking about keyword density, meta tags and the like.

One more thing to note, is that also Google will no longer be paying hardly any attention to recipricating links anymmore. One way backlinks have always been regarded higher than recipricating. The cure is trying to get as many one way backlinks, but this has been the case for a while. Does that mean you shoudn't get any recipricating links? No, I don't think so, just because they won't be considering them in your ranking, it can still be a good source for lots of traffic.

What Google is basically looking for is that make sure your site is about what it's supposed to be about.

If a search term is typed in, and your site shows up for that search term, then they want your site to have content about that search term and content relating throughout your site having something to do with that search term. Hence, Latent Symantic Indexing. Don't let it scare you too much.

Hope that makes sense to some.

Cheers Davin
