What does this mean? 2008/08/01 04:32
Hello everyone,

I am looking into an affiliate program and ran across this statement in their agreement and I'm not sure what it means.

Affiliate may not use their knowledge of, or association with Affiliates other than those sponsored to further any business undertaking other than xxx.

Can anyone enlighten me?

I believe all that means is...Don't share any information with other people about the affiliate program with other people that aren't already signed with their terms of agreement. I could be wrong, but that is what it reads to me. In other words" they do not want to be mis-represented"? Does that make sense?

Cheers
Davin

Hi Lisa Jo,

I think what they are saying is that if you get to know other affiliates in their program they don't want you to try to market other programs to them unless you have personally sponsored those affiliates yourself.

It sounds more like an MLM company's rules rather than a basic affiliate program.

Some companies have pretty strict regulations and they don't want you to cross market for other companies you may be a part of to their current members, etc.

Make sense? Hope that helps. Personally, I try to steer clear of companies that are overly restrictive. You have to decide for yourself what limitations you can live with.

Blessings,
Angie

Yes, that does make sense. Thanks Davin. I really appreciate how quickly you respond. My time is limited on the internet. A few minutes here, a few minutes there. It helps a lot

All the best,

Hi Angie,

That does ring a bell with another company that I used to work with. You couldn't advertise on the same page with other products. If it was in a store the restrictions were even worse.

Thanks for bringing that to mind. The way it was worded threw me off.

I am loving being a part of this with you guys.

Warm regards,
Lisa Jo

Hi Lisa Jo,

Glad to help. I wanted to just clarify a little further. I am referring to this concept...

Say you joined company X as an affiliate (particularly mlm) and over a course of time you built a downline and and then got to know other members that you didn't sponsor and refer yourself to the program.

Then you discover company Y and join it. "Aha!" you say, "I'm going to tell all my friends at company X about this wonderful new opportunity with company Y!"

This is a no-no with certain companies. You can tell those members in company X that you personally brought into the company, but not the other friends/associates in the company that you know but didn't directly sponsor.

That is what I think your snippet at the beginning is referring to, but I'm just guessing based on that small amount of info.

Blessings,
Angie
