Re:Four Months to Freedom 2007/09/16 04:56
Hello Everyone!

Timing is everything sometimes, and that's what I'm learning now. I quit my regular day job a few months ago, and have actually been doing freelance work since then. Mostly I ghost write web content, and do a few other things I find around like transcription, etc.

However, I came to a realization this weekend. It's still a lot of hard work (50+ hrs/wk), and I'm still working for the the "man", so-to-speak. I have come back to square one, and am trying to get back in the groove with Holly's book and methods. Why? Because I truly believe that they work, period.

I read another post on here this weekend about the 'bummarketing' method (article marketing, basically), and wondered if anyone has really had a series of successes with that type of program? I mean, can you really create articles for specific keywords to place high in the search engines? I always thought the object of article marketing was to generate mass traffic and help improve your PR ... it never dawned on me you could do what is described in the bummarkeing thing ...

So what do you all think?

Michael

Well Mercand, the bum marketing method can work. I was playing around with it for a bit. But, really, it's probably more important to focus on your business as long term. Bum Marketing might give you some quick cash and perhaps some good links, but use it as part of your marketing and don't rely on it to bring you in money consistently.

Personally, I'm always thinking of building for long term which in my opinion means a good sized list, membership sites and building good relationships with other marketers. Also niche websites, with enough of them they could bring you in a long term income.

As marketers, one of the most valuable things I have been learning is that we really need one another. That's the reasoning behind building good relationships. When you can build good relationships with other marketer then you can leverage their lists and recommendations etc. in J/V types of promotions. This is really important in building your own list as well if you can exchange ad swaps etc.

So while I think bum marketing should be a part of your marketing but never put all your eggs in one basket.

I hope you see the reasoning.

Cheers

Hey JerDon and Sara,

Have you submitted your site to tons of site directories yet. If not then this should be your first step in getting a new site off the ground.

I own IBP and also SEO Elite, and also the full version of Directory Submitter. As if I need all three?? Don't ask!!

Anyways, this is very time consuming to do, and recently Guido put me on to a service which is called digixmas, and for 15US this will submit your site to over 1000 directories. Now, if you have ever completely done this by hand, trust me, pay the $15 and be done with it. It is so time consuming. Here is Guido's link http://www.digixmas.com/?id=972 .

Personally, next would be finding as many High PR directories to submit your site into as well. For this I can use any of the programs that I have mentioned above and do it semi-automatically.

And next would be, your correct, submitting articles to article directories. Brad Callen has a fantastic new article submitter that will submit to 85 article directories for Free. I don't have a link handy, but I'm sure if you do a search for it, you will find it fast. The other programs like IBP etc. have this feature incorporated as well, but I tried out Brad's new one and prefer it now actually.

Again, very, very tedious and time consuming. You could also pay to have this done for you. A site called Isnare can do this for you for a reasonable cost and actually Holly has a service listed in her book as well that she uses.

One thing to not forget, is even if you are using submitters, make sure not to forget the top directories which include Ezine Articles, Go Articles and SearchWarp. Ezine Articles is the top of them all but it's an absolute must because of their high PR and also their high traffic.

If you can do 20 a week great, there is no golden number, but the more you do, then the more inbound links you will get, and also the more exposure. Always keep an eye on the directories Page Rank. Why submit to 100 directories with no PR, when you can submit to one with a good PR and gain just as much power in terms of SEO.

Work smarter, not harder.

Hope that helps,

Davin
