Link cloaking is fun, biodegradable and good for the environment!
Just kidding there many free tools out there to cloak your links and some that cost.
The basic idea of link cloaking started when it became common knowledge among marketers that some people were removing the affiliate codes from URL's or changing them to their own thus eliminating your possible affiliate sale or them getting it or discounting something they wanted.
Link cloaking helps in many instances to make a referral link look like a direct link. There was a test done that showed results stating, people will sometimes type in the main site name, they see an affiliate extention on to bypass the affiliate link. Maybe they're under the impression that a middle man charge is involved and they might get it for less... I don't know, but it does happen.
You don't have to use it everywhere but it's good to know that there is an option that you can stick into your mental IM toolbelt.
Just wanted to share, Dan

Currently working on writing my own Link Cloaking application that will allow users to create a secure encrypted link without ActiveX or Java.
Current testing is looking very promising and will let everyone know when it is complete and ready to use.
