Link Theft 2007/04/08 11:18

I see alot fo articles and forums talk about Link theft. How can someone benifit off of link theft.
I understand that they can destroy your link. But how? If your link is placed on a ad they can't just change the ad.
I also understand that someone when buying that particular product and edit the end of the link to their own but how does that benefit them? Don't they still have to send that link to someone else so therefore that means work on their part?
This has been baffling me for a few days now.
Much Appreciated
CMK

Hi CMK, Are you referring to "link hijacking"? Link cloaking is supposed to protect you from link bypassing and link hijacking. I was wondering about that, too. I had never heard the term until I joined this forum. Susan.

Generally it's a problem with the internet marketing niche, using there own links to buy...not necessarily using it to advertise to customers.
For instance CMK, you are advertising a Joomla product from clickbank...so, if I decided I was interested in it, I could recreate the link using MY CB ID, and get the commisions for myself, essentially getting a discount on the product, and cutting you out of the deal.
Now imagine that same scenario, but instead of a forum sig, you are advertising that link via PPC, solo ads, or some other paid advertisment. Now I'm taking money out of your pocket.
Thats why you see a lot of people adding bonuses to IM products...to convince people to buy through their links.
Hope that helps, Kevin
