Topix cracking down on affiliate links? 2008/08/23 02:38

Hello,
Topix appears to me to be cracking down on affiliate links. This worked for me for awhile but lately my forum entries with affiliate links have been getting deleted.
I did read their rules and it does say not to post things such as affiliate links but it seemed for a long time they were not enforcing this. Topix was mentioned as a place in the Honest Riches book where we could place affiliate links. So was Craig's list but I learned awhile back that Craig's List prohibits affiliate links.
You can officially sign up for advertising on Topix and have google adsense, etc. Do you have to pay? Does anyone have experience with going this route on Topix? I'm bummed that Topix is deleting my affiliate links. Perhaps the days of freely entering affiliate links on Topix are coming to an end?
Not claiming to be an expert here---just sharing some recent experiences.
Looking forward to feedback.
Thank you, Link

I disable my website link on purpose within the forum. I don't like it getting sucked into search engines per privacy issues/concerns. I want my entries herein to be primarily within the HR community.

Hello,
I too got into Topix to try and show my site and link. Instead of the forum route, I place ADS. I use the for sale with $0 as the cost. I write a short add in an attempt to draw intrest with my link at the bottom or in refernce to it.
So far I have had some traffic without success, but it is free. I haven't had any of them deleted.
I place the adds local to my area where I live, as well as the state. Recently I went into larger market/cities.
Just another avenue to try and draw traffic.
Good Luck

Well I do know that Holly still makes a fair sum from her Topix activity from long ago. Many of these are perhaps repeat customers. I believe the product she was promoting was a renewable monthly product.
If they are cutting down on affiliate links you could always create a pre-sales page for a product, and upload it to your server. Or, you could always create re-direct as well. This way you can still advertise in Topix, but, you are still abiding by their T.O.S
Hope that helps..

Thank you for the addl info, etc!
Per affiliate links in Topix:
I've studied this more and I think it must depend on circumstance. I think Topix tolerates it more if your entry is a participant in a discussion and not the original post. If it is the original post entry and obviously, from the title, sounds like some kind of solicitation, it stands a greater chance of getting deleted.
I also think it depends on the forum and the moderator.
If you can blend in pretty good that is best I think. I guess if I'm a moderator I'd go for the obvious, clear cases and ignore the rest.....especially if the forum has a lot of volume. Or I might respond if another forum member complains. If it is a low volume forum perhaps I'd scan all entries...putting myself in the position of a moderator.
So I guess Topix is quasi tolerant for now depending on circumstances.
Good learning for me though!
Thanks again!

I've experienced Topix exactly as you describe - you participate and contribute to a thread and they don't delete your post.
