Questions on an idea I have? 2008/10/02 08:28
I have just been doing some basic brainstorming on some Idea's I had floating around my head.

Now keep in mind, I have not done the proper research yet. I have what I believe is a very good set of informational products with all the information I need to figure this whole IM thing out. I believe my biggest problem will come from my lack of technical ability. I will have to outsource that or hope SBI will help me overcome that.

I was looking at what I would concider a niche, but maybe wouldn't be concidered a niche by someone trying to be real specific. In the niche, there is probably 7 sub niches.

In the most general terms the basic niche has 5 million results at most no matter what I type in that is the worste case from google.

Out of the 5 mil worste case scenerio there are only 3 authority sites. If I break it down to the sub catagories its basically the same thing or usually better on each.

There is a very large affiliate oportunity for the niche. Since I have personal experience as a customer of the niche, and went through the same struggles looking for info and products I know it well.

When I look at the autority sites I don't believe there is any way I could best them but in almost all cases the 4th site has about 30 pages but they are not specific to the general search and if it is in a specific sub catagory they are usually only a few pages of general information and alot of outside links. I can see a few affiliate sites are well done to a specific topic but they usually dont rank well in the pages.

Obviously I clicked on all the PPC sites on google and took a look since 95% of them are from affiliates. All of them had the same thing, they only promoted 1 companies products even though there are several I have already found. Some were pretty good on a lesson basis but I can't help but think a different approach would beat them hands down since I have been a customer myself and never click on PPC ads when I am looking for something. It just seemed like a lack of effort especialy from those that had very good copy, something that I would probably have to outsource since as you can tell I will suck at,lol

It seems like with the proper SEO work after the proper keyword research it would be easy to rank #4 in all sub catagories.

My Idea would be to make a site that covered all the catagories, A main site with all the sub catagories, I could come up with atleast 10 pages per sub catagories, in total not including links, sitemaps, and all the standard crap I could probably do about 100 pages of original quality content with alot of products on offer. This would dwarf any of the competition that I have seen so far in my basic research.

The objective would be to become the authority site, or well # 4 in each of the sub catagories.

While the niche doesnt fit the 200,000 theme it really does seem weak.

Is my way of thinking correct so far?

I know this is very general so far, but I am very methotical when I am researcing things.I just want to guage what you think of my findings so far and see if you would be thinking the same way if you were on the basic brainstorming process.

My girls, Annie, Angie, and kathy I love you, all the advise you have givin me, I know you will respond, only problem is who's link will I click on if I decide to go with SBI,lol.

MINE! ...just kidding!

So, what are you waiting for? Sounds like you are on your way.

Seriously though, it's sounds as though you may be on to something. If the niche is too broad, you may be able to find a niche within your niche. Have you checked out the Action Guide? It will be able to help you with your answers and BrainStormIt! will help you to determine if it is a profitable niche.

Hey Brian,

It sounds like you are onto a good niche idea. Remember this - even though you may think you'll never be able to beat the 'big 3' in your category for the MAIN keyword, there are going to be a ton of other keywords that you'll write pages about that you can rank #1 for.

Here's something to think about - my chocolate site? I was "found" for over 5,000 different keywords and phrases last month. I may not be in the #1 position for the phrase 'chocolate candy' but I am for enough other phrases (or close enough) that I get more and more visitors all the time.

You're going to find a ton of phrases that people actually use that you hadn't thought of yourself when searching for information in your niche. You'll get found for those as you build more and more content.

It's good that you have a general layout/design in your head of what you want to do, but as you go through and do some brainstorming, allow the information/results to guide you. You'll make some possible changes and adjustments as you go along.

I'm dying to know what you niche is! When you finally get yourself up and running, do be sure and let us have a peek at your site.

You're right about beating 95% or more of the sites in your niche. The majority of SBI sites rank in the top 3% of the traffic rankings. Why shouldn't YOU?

Blessings,
Angie

Hi Brian...wow! You have an excellent analytical mind. For someone just "starting out" you have really been able to delve into the data and application of placement, niches, sub-niches, and well...everything!

Now I'm going to be honest with you...for that's why we are all here. Angie and Kathy are both experienced with SBI...they have used it and can speak from their personal success. I do not have a site through them yet, but after learning from what both Angie and Kathy have said, as well as looking at the information through the links, I will be building my first true website with SBI. Therefore, will all the support for your actual questions/theory you posed in your post...they have answered beyond my present knowledge base!

I found this link in my package from SBI about the tools that you get, and it made me think that all the hard work you are doing manually will be made almost "automatic" with these features in your program.

It's here in the link for "all the tools in one place".

And, as far as whose link you click on to sign up with SBI, really, as long as you feel it's the right product for you and if and when you choose SBI, that's what really matters.

As Angie said, let us know when you have your site up, for it will be great to see what all your research is about!

Until next time...
Annie
