Squidoo question from a soon to be user! 2007/08/18 06:49
I don't know if any of you have ever heard Bill Cosby say......Boy, I tell ya ! But that's where I am right now. Ya know, it's like everytime I think I am going to get something done TODAY
( everyday ), it seems that I am reading one more post that mentions??? ( fill in the blank ) and I feel like it could be good, helpful info that I MUST have to succeed.

Here's what has happened for the last 3 and 4 days. I am up and online until 3-3:30 a.m. every morning reading and reading, thinking and coming up with what I think are good ...no GREAT ideas only to become SO tired and end up wore out after hauling off and doing NOTHING so I go to bed. Now I do read and feel like I'm learning, but I need to MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN !! I need to feel like "I won" that day, even if it was a little win.

I read alot in Holly's book yesterday.( I actually it's MY book, Holly just wrote it I'm starting to lose it folks )
The part I was on most was key words and word tracker. I still don't get it...I mean REALLY! I was going to try to explain what I think or thought those phrases mean, but that would show my ignorance.

So, last night I got led to squidoo and read the purpose and meaning of it's function and realize that it's probably something good to start with that can express a little bit of who I am and what I am about. Maybe even what some of my goals and intentions are about too. Then I read something about the keyword stuff again. It seems like everytime I am ready to make it happen, I'm stuck again.

Let me ask this....In order to have a successful lens. One that gets attention of search engines, and will help draw attention to my up and coming web site and blog page, how do I want to use words in the title or throughout the lens?

Did that make ANY sense AT ALL?

I THINK, I'm learning that the words you use are important to attract attention to your site. I have not yet fully understood that process and it keeps me "stuck on stupid".

If you speak gibberish like I do and can help me I would appreciate it !

Simmer down Carl...it's OK!...Everything's going to be just fine!

It's perfectly normal to be overwhelmed in the beginning. Many times I wondered if I was in over my head (as a matter of fact I still sometimes do!!!).

There's really nothing tuff about squidoo. Your "tags" or "keywords" are just the words that you want the search engines to use to find you. Try to pick phrases that you would use if you were searching for your topic (make it an interesting topic). Try to use your main keyword phrase in your url, this seems to work pretty well. I try to "bold" my main keywords throughout the text. Try to add as many modules as you can and don't make each module too long, this also seems to work. After you publish it, it should be "live" the next day. Join as many relevant groups as you can (you can even post the link to your lens on some of the groups that have guestbooks). Add it to del.icio.us, digg this, lensroll.com. Then you can go to the squidoo forums and ask people to take a look at it. All of these things should generate traffic for you.

Just take things one step at a time so it's not so overwhelming.

Be careful though, Squidoo can be very addicting!
I think I'm up to 21 with 2 in the wings.

The lens I made about Holly is doing well
http://www.squidoo.com/howtomakealivingfromhome/
It's #7 on the 1st page of Google for How to make a living from home out of 261,000,000 sites!

If I can do it, anyone can!

Good luck,
Kathy

Hey Kathy-

Thanks for the kind words. Let me ask you a question. I see that your site is full of Holly's stuff. I am signed up as an affiliate of hers and am wondering what I is legal for me to use to promote her book and my web site wothout breaking the rules?

Any helpful advice?

Thanks

Carl

There are very few rules on squidoo. As long as it's not spam and it has useful information on it, and you don't try to put a X rated lens in the G section, you're much good to go! You can promote as many affiliate products as you want!

What about putting Holly's stuff on there? As an affiliate, is there a way to get that information to promote it or did you just past and copy her material from a web site? Just curious.

Thanks!

And congrats on your site(s)

I got my affiliate links from her new website :

http://www.how2-makemoneyonline.com/new/?thankyou=32

If you're are not signed up through there, sign up and login. Then go to tools. You'll be able to copy and paste your affiliate links from there to your text modules in your lens (she'll have them already set up for you with your own id). As far as the information, you'll have to write your own stuff. The stuff that's on my lens is my own personal experience. If you cut and paste her website Google will frown on it and you won't get indexed.
