Bill,
Are you referring to Holly's book? When you are looking for a niche, that is the topic or subject of the items you want to promote. If you are planning to promote products using a website, it is best to stick to one subject per web site. For instance, in my chocolate site, I promote a number of different products, but they are all related to chocolate - party favors, candy molds, novelty chocolate, candy bar fundraisers, etc.
I would not promote diet pills on that site - completely off topic!
In my case, these are not my products. I am using affiliate marketing and promoting other people's products. My links send my visitors to their web site, and I get credit for the sale and earn a commission.
If I wanted to, I could promote my own products or services. But the idea is the same. Stay on topic in a website. Generally, yes, you write the content (stories) yourself. Some people pay others to write content for them, but starting out, you probably can't afford to do that.
If you are using other methods of promoting the products that are mentioned in the book, like article marketing, press releases, etc., you can promote products from a variety of niches (topics) if you like.
Does this answer your question at all? Let me know if it is still unclear and be a bit more specific in your question if you can.
