Using PayPal for digital downloads 2006/12/05 00:22
I've been a content writer for a while so I'm not completely new to Internet marketing, but now I'm entering the fray myself for the first time ever. I have a digital product I want to sell online and I have some questions about the technical aspects of doing this. I'm hoping someone here can help me, or perhaps point me in the direction where I could learn this stuff.

I currently have a Premier account at PayPal. I've been perusing their site but haven't been able to find answers to my questions, however I did find where I can copy the code to put a payment button on my website. And I know I need to create a landing page where the buyer can download my product once they've paid. Everything else is a bit fuzzy. What do I have to do in order for the buyer to be automatically redirected to my download page once they've completed the payment process? Also, I've read in more than one place that the PayPal button on my site needs to be "secure". What are the issues there, and how does one do that, exactly?

I've read sooo much hype about Internet marketing as part of the learning process (as we all have I'm sure). But I have to say Holly Mann's "Honest Riches" was an absolute breath of fresh air, so I was real happy to find this forum!

There is programming involved in the solution that you're looking for.

I spent 6 hours with my developer figuring out how it all worked and still didn't end with a viable solution like your looking for.

Essentially, someone could change the price on their purchase from you and still land on the download page and pick up your product.

The optimal way for it to work is.. Your script sends variables to paypal through the payment process, once payment is received, paypal sends that payment has been received back to your script, your script then sends the information back to paypal requesting confirmation of the purchase (including the correct amount), and once confirmed or denied, paypal sends that information back to your script which in turn takes the appropriate steps to getting the product to your customer..

I hope that makes sense..

1. I want the product --> pay paypal
2. Payment received --> back to your confirmation script
3. Did they really pay the correct amount and here's their payment ID for you to check --> to paypal
4. They did/did not pay --> to your script
5. Ok.. they paid, here's the download page... or no, they didn't pay.. "Nice Try. I'm keeping your money now try again!".

How can you easily automate this process?

Setup a clickbank account, build the pages that they tell you to. Let them handle the backend and pay them a little on each purchase and pay affiliates a commission for selling your product for you.

In Honest Riches, Holly mentions another company like clickbank. Both accept paypal payments I believe.

I believe this to be accurate, but if I'm off, someone please correct me

Another alternative and promising affiliate network that's gaining popularity you could consider is PayDot.COM.com.It's owned by PayPal itself.

Check them out here : https://paydotcom.com/homepage.php

I really didn't understand the post about how someone could change the price of the product they were buying, but I'll worry about that if it happens. I have set up a site for the "Article Site Builder" but haven't put it up yet, has anyone had any luck with this product? I have reprint rights and all that so I guess I won't get popped for copyright or anything like that. But the one snag I'm at right now is how to test that buyers actually get sent back to the correct return page from paypal without actually paying for the thing myself. If I don't test it I won't know if it is actually working or not till I get some kind of feedback from buyers, which will probably only happen if it DOESN'T work.

You want to use Payloadz
https://www.payloadz.com/

Through payloadz you can create the code for a paypal button on your site. The visitor will pay through paypal then be redirected to download the product via payloadz. Payloadz is free if you store the data file on your own hosting server. If you want them to store your digital product then there is a fee.
