I have questions regarding a niche 2008/01/23 19:41
I have been stuck in this part of the process for a long time. Almost a year....

#1 If I did a website on product reviews, can I put a lot of product reviews (all related to the same theme) on one website?

or will it be too hard to get noticed? Should I only pick 1 product per website and do a website for each product?

Thanks,
Tawni

For the type of site you're talking about, I would do one site with multiple reviews.

Tawni,

There is absolutely no reason why you can't just pick a theme and write reviews related to your theme.

This is especially true for review sites, because people will often want to compare similar products, rather than be looking for information about one product in particular.

More importantly, get unstuck!

Go to blogger.com right now. Open an account (it's free), create a new blog (it's free), Give your blog a title related to your theme and write a review. It doesn't have to be a good review or a long one. Do it as soon as you finish reading this post.

Now you're unstuck. Easy, wasn't it? Anytime you feel stuck again, go back to your blog and post another review. If you are stuck on one thing you've got to have something else that's easy that you can go and do instead.

Even if you have a more elaborate site planned, start a blog anyway because you can always link your blog to your site once you get it up and running. It will help your site get listed in Google and should bring you traffic too.

Hi Tawni,

Review sites can be really great. I almost started one, but now that I think about, I got sidetracked. Anyway, I have a friend who has a couple that do really well. The first one is about vacuum cleaners (I can't think of the address) and the second one is www.best-juicer-reviews.com

He uses SBI to build his sites like I do, but he's more advanced than I am and uploads his own html. But you can still have a look and get an idea of how a good review site is laid out.

Depending on the product you are reviewing, you can even have a slight variation to broaden your theme if desired. Notice how he has also included some popular healthy juice reviews?

Mark's advice is good, but if you are as new to this as I was getting started, you may just want to stay focused on your site instead of branching out on too many things at once. Unless, as Mark says, you will be refreshed and de-stressed by the outlet of a blog, too. Everyone is different, so you have to decide if it will help or hinder your progress.

Do you have a domain and hosting, etc., set up yet? Are you familiar with the whole sitebuilding process? If not, I highly recommend you consider SBI. They make the whole process very "simple" with all their integrated tools and step by step instructions, including researching a niche.

Let me know if I can help in any way. If you have been debating about a niche for a year, it is time to take the plunge and get started. Don't worry, the water's fine.

To Mark and Happy Wife

Thanks to both of you. I just signed up with SBI 1 month ago. My passions to me have to do with raising a family.

The market is so saturated though..I can't seem to dig deep and find something in there that will be worth my time to do. I've read Holly's book dozen's of times and finding a narrow niche when you're just beginning, is what keeps sticking in my head.

The only reason I came up with the idea of a review site, is because a general website seems like a no money maker. (However if you put in kid products, for example, in the search engines I think it's over 2 million)

They say you should do what you enjoy, but I'm wondering if I shouldn't try to enjoy something else, so I could make some money.

I agree with the blog, however knowing how anal I am, it might only make me think and analyze even more. I won't know unless I try though.
