I have a niche in mind but..... 2008/03/05 00:42
I am not sure if it is worth the try? Any advice is welcome!! I have a texture graphic site right now. It is only a few months old. At this time it is not generating any income. I want to stick with graphics, because that is something I really enjoy doing and sharing. The graphics site I have now is more for 3d projects, and other things like scrap booking, greeting cards ect. Now, here is what I want to do, myspace graphics. I want to learn to make them and have a separate site to display and share them on. Is this a niche worth moving forward on using Holly's e-book? Would I have to start my own site, or have one started by Holly? Is this niche to broad?

Thanks!!

~Jenn~

Hi Jenn!

I took a look at your site and it looks very nice. Do you know why you aren't making money with it? I would say your first step is to figure out what went "wrong" with the first site and see if it can be fixed before repeating the mistake with a second site.

Before building your textures site, did you run the numbers and see if the demand was there? How about the supply? Was it too saturated a niche to break into or too narrow to really draw enough traffic?

My next questions are how many pages do you have built on that site? Are you getting steady traffic?

You mentioned that this site is for things like scrap booking, greeting cards, etc., but you don't seem to have made use of those keywords and related phrases. Why don't you use the brainstormer to find good keywords relating to those topics and build pages for each one? That will bring in more targeted traffic and that site will begin to pay. I hate to see you lose all the work on such a nice site.

If you are considering building another site, the only way you can really determine if it is going to be a profitable niche is to run the numbers and do the research. Since you have an SBI site already, use their brainstormer and MKL to do a search on myspace graphics. See what the numbers tell you. Their brainstorming tool alone is well worth the price of SBI all by itself.

Holly's book is good for beginners, but it isn't going to provide you with more than what you have already available to you. It is more about the different ways to earn an online income, niche sites being one of them. But it doesn't have the tools and step by step guide that you already have in SBI.

It's my understanding that when you purchase a site that Holly sets up for you, it is more or less the shell. You are still going to have to do all the research and building yourself. There is no way she could possibly do that for everyone.

Of course, it is up to you how you spend your time, but I see so much potential in the site you have already begun. There are so many ways you can expand on that if you just use the tools you've got to find the keywords that you can adapt to your concept.

Hang in there.

Thanks for your reply! First let me say I know Holly wasn't going to build the site for me I just wondered if that was the way to go. In the back of my mind I wondered if I should stick with maybe another SBI site

I have just begun to monetize. I put the Google ads up a week ago, I have made a total of 1.00 Should I expect more so soon? I do have some pages that branch out into what my textures can be used for, still working on those I get about 50-70 visitors a day. I have over 100 pages. I knew when deciding to do this that this niche was not as popular as most, but it is what I enjoy doing and what I know so I went with it. I have 36 pages that rank between 1-10, most ranking under 5. I am not sure what is wrong? Maybe my site is still to *new*

I have checked out myspace graphics in brainstorm it. Only the first step tho. Right now there is a high demand of 160,800 and a supply of only 44,000. Just for myspace graphics. Other keywords which I would surely use are anywhere from 3000 up to 29,000 with not much supply. Like I said I have to finish running BSI to get a full keyword list. But it looks good so far.

In reading Holly's first few chapters of her book, I am considering trying other ways to make money online too. Not just Niche sites. I still have a lot to read tho.

Thank you so much for your reply

Jenn,
Thanks for the info. Yes, if you just put the Google ads up, give it time. They will increase as your site grows and expands. To have that many pages ranking in the top 10 of Google is fantastic. I wouldn't say anything is "wrong."

I don't know what the value of your ads is going to be - whether very many people are competing for those keywords - that, of course, makes a difference.

Can you monetize in other ways, too? Maybe some affiliate products or even selling your design service for creating custom textures, etc.? Perhaps you have that already on there. I obviously didn't look at the whole site.

The numbers for the new concept sound very promising. If you can handle keeping up with both of the sites (adding regular content) it may very well be worth your effort. Again, though, I don't know how much the advertiser competition is for Google Ads. Have you used the Google Adwords keyword tool to get an idea?

Also, you mention that you have some pages that branch out for the various uses of your textures. Have you built them based on BSI research on those phrases. I would think that there would be some ad competition for terms relating to scrap booking, at least, since that seems pretty popular and there is a market for product.

Finally - sure, try some of the other ways of online marketing. Just don't lose your focus and let your site slide. I spread myself a little to thin trying to do too many different things and my site suffered for it. You've got a tremendous start in a short amount of time. I think you'll be rewarded well in the end if you can capitalize on what you already have going.

It's hard to be patient, but that snowball will start rolling. Hang in there.

Blessings,
Angie

Thanks Angie! I am sorry I didn't reply sooner. I haven't had much time to be online, update my website or even be on the computer for the past couple of months. During some of this time I have been doing a lot of thinking. I bought another SBI site a while back, and I still think I want to do a myspace website. It will be a year September since I bought my first site, and I have to re-new. I was hoping to make enough to pay for my first year, but I haven't yet. I haven't had time to update the site and that would probably help, but now that I do have the time, I have found that there is something wrong with my computer. Now I have to fix the problem before I can move on with anything online. It seems my graphics card has gone bad and everything on my computer screen is pink. Kind of hard to make graphics for my website when everything is pink right

Soooooo I am still thinking about moving ahead with another graphics website. Myspace graphics have a high demand and smaller amount available, I think choosing Textures may have been a mistake since there is a lot of texture sites available out there already. But I guess I have to learn from my mistakes right? I love making graphics and I wanted to share something I enjoy doing.

Now I have to find out how to make my graphics into a myspace layouts!! Help!!! Hehehe

Thanks again for replying Angie!

Well hey there stranger!

That first site is always a real eyeopener. You learn a lot.

Sorry to hear about your computer problems.

Have you figured out how to monetize a site like that?
