Hi Ralph4,
Yes, there is money to be made on the web. Not very many people get 'rich' from it, but I guess that is a matter of perspective. What is rich to one person is not to another. You can certainly learn to make a living online.
If you are looking for a 'job' online, they are VERY hard to come by. The one's I've heard about are mostly involving taking customer service calls on the phone, etc. They don't pay very well either. There a lot of scams claiming to be online jobs, so just be careful.
If you want to work online, your best bet is to build your own online business. There are a variety of ways to do that, but they all take time to learn and build, just like an offline business.
The benefits, though, are that you can work at your own time and speed. Once you get the business up and running, it is much less work and the income continues and grows.
One of the more popular ways people get started earning money online is through affiliate marketing. That's when you promote products that belong to other people and earn a commission on the sales.
You can do that by writing articles and posting ads, but I think the very best way over the long term is to choose a subject that you enjoy and are very interested in and build a website about that particular subject. I built a site about chocolate candy for my first web site. I love chocolate!

Anyway, I don't actually sell chocolate personally, but I recommend various companies that sell particular chocolate products or candy making products relating to the different pages on my site. I earn commissions on the sales.
I also earn money from the Google Adsense advertisements on my site when visitors click on those ads.
Think about something YOU know about or are interested in learning about. You can build a site about almost anything. Don't worry about not knowing HOW to build a successful web site. There are wonderful companies like SiteBuildIt (SBI) that make that side of things simplified for you. I didn't have the slightest idea how to build a site when I started. Now I have three!

The main thing you (and other hopefuls) need to realize is that it is a process. There is NO get rich quick. If you can convince yourself of that and then get stuck into the work, you can definitely make some decent money online if you follow the step by step path of persistent building.
I hope that helps you some.

Blessings,
Angie
