I can almost see my ship through the fog 2007/04/22 10:44
Wow!

I've just finished up the 8th page of my General Business Overview (GBO). I think researching my financials was what slowed me way down. I had to dig really deep to get my statistics.

So I'm going to take this GBO now and create a Powerpoint presentation to hopefully generate some steam with some offline sources.

So Goal #1

Purchase my domain - it's currently sitting at $1000 for a minimum bid (OUCH!)

In the next 4 weeks I am going to have locked in 3 offline joint ventures.

6th week begins designing and flow charting the software for user functionality and efficiency.

8 weeks - begin taking bids on the project and building the website.

Hi! the title you gave your post reminded my of a Ziggy cartoon I saw once...It said, when my ship comes in, it will probably be during the dock strike!

You do know what the light at the end of the tunnel is, don't you? It's the headlamp of an oncoming train.

Good luck, all the best, and let us know what happens!

Hey Ali,

Well, looks like I have some heavy hitters stepping up to the plate now. You were right. I have a BIG train headed right for me and will probably roll right over me.

Seems eBay has become interested in doing the same thing idea I had. I happened upon their site late last night. They are still in the very early stages it looks like. However, they are in the operational stage now. I'm still in predevelopment.

They haven't hooked up with the hundreds of organizations out there yet to make it a successful project as of yet. But they have resources I can't even compete with, such as 60 million visitors a day to advertise and market to once they do get their ducks in a row.

They don't have all the plans that I have, at least not the way the site is set up currently. But at least I know that the idea I have is worth a billion dollar company sinking resources and assets into.

So that is a little encouragement. But how do you compete with something as huge as eBay? This changes everything, now I don't have the luxery of time and Im going to have to move even faster or quit altogether. Which brings up the problem of financing.

Moving faster creates financial problems for the project. The schedule that I had allowed me to sink cash into the project as it came available to me through work. Moving faster also risks creating junk. I don't believe in doing things halfway. I believe in precision.

Man, I just dont know what to do now. Pretty risky for me to even try to compete with ebay, on the other hand, I might be able to build up my business and generate interest quicker and sell off as an exit strategy...I just dont know at this point.

Any comments, suggestions, quips?

Hi! Go directly to your Private Messages. Do not pass GO and do not collect $200. Ha ha!

Well, that won't work. For some reason I don't see your user name there. Hmmm...

okay - try this. Go to pm and look for alinewbie and pm me. Then I can reply. Maybe you haven't registered there yet??

Aha! I got it. Go to your pm box.

I have no idea what kind of product or service he is talking about, but I can only offer this midwestern advice. If this is his very lst project, try to start out with one, a wee bit smaller in scope, just to get your feet wet. Often you can learn just as much and you won't have to hock your soul to see it thru to completion. Plus, if it should prove unmarketable (even the best thought up ideas don't always turn out as sellable), you still can keep gas in your F150 to get to town and buy more seedcorn!
