Overture vs. worktracker results 2007/05/04 23:16
I thought I found a killer 3 word phrase.

I am using Wordtracker (bought just a week)...

Overture says 6000 searches in March with 1620 competing. That gave a KEI of 22,222!!! LOL

BUT, Wordtracker says there were only about 126 searches with 1620 competing.

When I do a search in Google with quotes, I see 9,990 pages.

I'm not sure what to do now?? Does this mean anything? Why is it so different?

Thanks for any insight!

Check the google tool. Google has something similar to a keyword suggestion tool, I think it is combined with adwords.

I'm not exactly sure how overture gets their data(various sources ie yahoo, msn etc) but Wordtracker uses metacrawler and dogpile. The number of searches that come up in their index only accounts for roughly <1% of the searches done. They basically use a formula for the predicted searches, which can be found on their site if you probe around.

Other reasons could be the type of search ie global vs US only or where the server is located(so i've been told). Overture's data is 30 days and Wordtracker's is 90 days, as well

I would not try to bother to much with keyword tools...

I know this sounds very strange..

But try to use keyword tools just as guidance. Usually the keywords found at wordtracker can be expected to get 10 times the traffic.

If you have a keyword that shows 126 searches a day on wordtracker you can expect to get 1260 searches for that keyword on google.

You have to remember that the keyword tools are machines.

Dont rely on them too much.

Just because a keyword doesn't come up in the keyword tool does it mean that the keyword isint being searched for?

Hell no!

Its hard to belive but its true. The greatest keyword tool that has ever been developed is between your ears.

My advice is to continue with what you had planned to do. ignore what google, overture or wordtracker says.

I agree with Davapava. When I first started I relied completely on my keyword tools. It didn't take long for me to realize that these tools fall way short of being the definative tool. Use good researching techniques along with keyword tools and you will have much better results.

What are people using now that Overature is Yahoo Search Marketing and you have to pay for it? I'm getting lost as far as how to use what site to find information that is meaningful - is there some sort of tutorial out there someone can point me to?

Thanks,
Maryellen
