Wordtracker Help 2006/11/15 06:12

Before I pay for the one day Wordtracker Usage I want to make sure that I know how to use it correctly. So I have a few questions. I already goofed on one site, I bought a domain name to build a site around an affiliate. Come to find out the affiliate doesn't allow you to put their name in your domain name. The numbers I thought looked good, but apparently I wasan't using wordtracker correctly. I used google adsense tracker and those numbers looked good. But the Kei on Wordtracker was below a 1. So I know that is terrible.
Oh well learn the hard way so that domain will be parked.
I am keeping the website I made with the affiliate, but I have to change the domain name, so I have been searching for other niche keywords to optimize this site for.
I think I found some good ones and I want to give you the numbers and tell me if they sound good. I used the wordtracker demo for them and this is what I came up with.
The adsense cpc sux it's like .05cents, but Wordtracker Demo version says KEI is 94, count is 391, competing is 1,614
I searched for the exact keywords with quotes in google and got 640 pages.
Keep in mind wordtracker demo results come from MSN search only.
It seems hard to get good wordtracker numbers and good adsense cpc numbers, should I be worried about that or should I only worry about one or the other?
Thanks for your help.

How does this one sound? Is it worth it?
Kei is 441, Count is 21, Predict 27, 24hrs 2, Competing 0, Google exact keywords with quotes 0
If someone can, will you please fill in numbers of what I should be looking for.
KEI - I know needs to be over 100 and as high as possible Count - ? Needs to be high probably Predict - ? Needs to be high probably 24 hrs - ? Needs to be high probably competing - ? Needs to be low Google search in quotes - ? Needs to be low probably
But what are the minimums and maximums I am looking for to make it worth optimizing a site for?
Thanks again

One more, sorry about all the posts..
KEI 901, count 52, 24hrs 6, predict 67, competing 3
not to mention adsense cpc is $7.80
Also found out on the trial version 24hrs is msn only and predict is all major search engines.
Thanks again.
Google in quotes search returned 4 pages

Don't know if I'll be of much help or not, as I share some of the same questions. Here is what I have read in other sources before: Count should be at least 5K per month, competition below 20M. Of course, the KEI I think is supposed to be the leading factor, but if your KEI is 400+ but your count is 20 a month (one of your examples) this seems pretty weak if you ask me. The people over at wordtracker have a new guide to keyword research that may help shed some light on the subject for you. You can check it out at the link below: http://wordtracker.com/keyword-research-guide.htmlHope this helps. Michael

It's not just about KEI, I believe Holly said that she doesn't pay too much attention to it.
What you need is a niche with NUMBERS. Lots of people searching for your keyphrases and an acceptable level of competition.
You've got to bear in mind that your click through ratio will also have a bearing on what you make, not just the CPC.
If you only have 100 visitors a month and your CTR is 1%, that's only one adsense click per month, even if the CPC is $7.80.
In contrast, 5000 visitors a month and a 1% CTR with a CPC of just 50c would net you $25.
With those numbers, get your CTR up to 5% and you make $125, or 10% to make $250.
Don't forget that you can choose to optimise your site for a whole raft of related keyphrases. That way you can just add the predicted visitors, and KEIs of all your related keyphrases together. You can make the lower traffic keyphrases pay using this approach.
HOT WORDTRACKER TIP: If you are only going to use Wordtracker for a day, try this... Dump ALL the keyphrases that it turns up into your basket, thousands of them if you can. Then when you get the results on screen select them and copy them into an Excel sheet. You can then sort them later at your leisure!
-Mark.
