I like the spoonerisms in Church bulletins and Reed and I both agree that our respective newspapers need to hire proofreaders.
As far as the Bottle of Rum goes this Pirate will take you up on that any time.I don't drink very much but an occasional hot toddy for medicinal purposes can't hurt.My drinking days stopped during my college years.I prefer to remain in control of all my senses at all times; having a "few" at a party or social gathering is OK as long as no-one overdoes it.So, if we ever get together in person we can share a few drinks and with you ,a lot of laughs ,I'm sure.

    Some good ideas coming in.

What we are aiming for are suggestions for competitions that :
    • newbies as well as experienced Internet Marketers can enter (and win)
    • allow members to develop a new or improve an existing IM skill
    • are not too difficult or complicated to enter
    • are fun
So, bearing these in mind, keep your suggestions coming in.

    Hi Kevin,

Why dont you do a quick email broadcast to all the forum members.

That should get the idea levels going

I'd like to suggest an improvement to Falcons idea, particularly the charity aspect.

Maybe once the 50 tips are done CBA could approach a publisher and we could turn this into a physical book that is sold on Amazon with all proceeds going to charity. The winners whose tips are in the book get a bio and link back to their websites.

I would love to get involved and drive something like this.

    Cheers

May Comp --The C.B.A. 5O Top Tips

My Idea is for everyone to send in their top IM tip that they have used that has made a real difference to their online business.

out of all the tips received the top 50 will be chosen and turned into a PDF report that could be offered to forum members in return for a donation that would go to charity.

The winners would be chosen from the top 50 tips and the top 3 tips would receive the prizes.

If choosing the best 50 tips is too time consuming this could be reduced to the top 20 or even the top 10.

With the idea in place this could go live on the 1st day of the month that the competition would be run. The cut off date for tips would be half way through the month, which would leave 2 weeks to choose the top 50 and announce the winners.

The only improvement i would like to put forward on Lex's idea is to make it COMPULSORY to download a free trial of Camtasia 7 and use that to make the video. It has a function for videoing Powerpoint.

But the main reason for this improvement is that everybody will have learnt a new skill and will be able to use the best video capture tool on the market.

{ May Comp--"Power Point Video" } Using Microsoft Powerpoint to create a promotional Video promoting either your own website or a CBA product.

Video's should be no longer than 2 min. Audio optional either you talking through the presentation or suitable backing music.

Ah! Ha! So you think I am joking hey? Actually one of my many failings is that I joke too much, so much so, that when I am serious people still think I am joking and therefore don't take me seriously.

As regards the poker game I would probably do a quadruple bluff after showing my cards causing a confused look from onlookers so that they will think the cards that they thought they saw in my hand were actually not the cards or I would not be betting on them so they think they must be better ones and fold leaving me to take the pot. I read a book on this once about a man named John who watched his opponents until he knew all their little twitches and expressions when they had good hands and bad hands he would let some of the weaker players win even though he knew he had better hands so that the other better players would not detect his real method of playing and then he would beat them like a true pro.
I don't play it though as I don't gamble in that particular sense.

Meanwhile .... How about a best step by step cheat sheet on how to produce a video using powerpoint, you tube and linking techniques and camtasia or some other method and the best and easiest one to follow is awarded a prize the best video produced is awarded a prize and the best reason as to why the best video is the best wins a prize?

I sometimes have the same problem,Vince.
One of the reasons I dropped out of pre-med was that people never knew whether to take my advice. And I still frequently have a laugh in my voice, so I tend to unintentionally sound monotone unless I am telling a joke.

You have lots of good ideas. Some may not be sincere, true enough; most are full of merit.
Although you are not placing your ideas as entries for this month's competition ,there is no reason why someone else cannot use one of your ideas and expound on it for a prize entry.

Doh!! See what I mean?.. All my ideas are sincere (maybe crazy but sincere) and I thought I was entering them in the compo... just goes to show you know what thought did?

Interestingly among a lot of crazy ideas there may be just one that lifts off the roof and it is worth plugging away until that one idea pops out. One thing is for sure and that is if you don't keep plugging away the chances of it popping out is very low.

I will have to read the rules again to see what gave you the idea I was not entering my ideas or maybe Reed can disconfuserate me and perhaps others so we all know what we are doing. I actually do know what I am doing but not necessarily know why I am doing it. The gathering of the threads together when Reed got back may be the difference due to the {may comp--my idea} thing that I didn't do due to the pulling of the threads together to alleviate the confusion or not.

Why not make me the charity? I may need more specialist help as my former consultants could not help me as they had never come across a mind like mine before so I started to counsel them and now they are well on the mend.

I may have to use special icons or smilies to help readers distinguish between a serious comment, a proper entry, an ordinary comment or observation and a hmmmm maybe that could be a competition idea to see who can come up with the best icons to help people understand what the hell I am talking about.

(Thought for an un-pollitacally correct book title " How to understand the ravings of a psychologically disturbed dyslexic all rounder, from every point of the compass!")
Off now to re-read the rules

    Vince_the-Prince's {May compo-- "your idea thingy}

How about... Making a template for the monthly competitions so that all Reed and/or Bill need to do is enter the goal or purpose of the competition and the methods to be used to accomplish said goals or purposes.

When a particularly good effort is made by an entrant Kevin and or Paul could give a spot prizes as an extra incentive to increase participation in the competitions. Also if anyone uses what they see to good effect they too can give a gift to show their appreciation.

Most rules will be similar in all competitions but can be changed as the need arises but not during the competitions.

We could also have a post mortem to give our view on why we thought the winner was the winner e.g. it was the most original or practical or best eye opening etc and a prize could be given to the one who is closest to the judges reasons.

Vince,my apologies. You implied that you were not entering and then came up with a dozen ideas but not individually with a {may comp--my idea}. So I suggest you go through your posts in this thread and post each idea separately ,each with it's own {may comp--my idea}.

And I wasn't saying your ideas were jokes. You present them frequently with an air of joviality since you have the sense of humour of a true Ace.

    Hi Bill
No need to apologies as I don't understand myself half the time. I don't remember implying that I was not entering but, I do remember suggesting that people pay me not to enter, I have received no offer of payment so I am going to keep coming again and again until I blow the house down like the big bad wolf only I will be slyer than the big bad wolf and do a runner before I get to the chimney bit of the story.

I think I never did the separated idea bit because I tend to ramble a lot and the ideas just pop into my head so I write them as they come. If I don't do that I may lose them forever. Also because once Reed pulled all the entries into one thread there did not appear to be a valid reason for it but hey we both learned something which has to be good my friend.

My next plan of action then, is to do a copy and paste routine of my ideas and do them separately as this will be part of my therapy and maybe help me communicate better but that will have to wait cos I am going to watch England on the telly for an hour or two.
    see ya later

    Hey Bill and VTP -
    Here's my idea;

Why don't you two get a room ???

    Hi Eric
If you pay I'm game LOL

In fact we should all get a room or go skyping and then we will get a better understanding of how each other thinks and communicates. Hmmmmm (just got another idea but will make a side note and include it in my copy and paste routine for later)

These idea things are like buses where you don't see one for ages and then 3 or more turn up all at once.

Here is a statement that will get some going.... The English language is like a woman's mind....who can really get to understand it? Even if you thought you could the world is not big enough for a book to explain it.

Question for Bill/Reed... When I do the separate idea thingy do I have to do separate posts for each one or can I do them all within one post? Here are my thoughts on the subject....

Highlight them by using either numbers, colours, or prefix them with the word Idea.

Must go and find some paying work as mrs will get mad if I don't.
