Default How about an SEO competition?

There's so many marketers who claim to be the best at getting ranked in Google. It would be really cool and probably give this forum a lot of attention if you did a contest for a keyword phrase (no domain names, just Web 2.0 / video/ article properties)

Anyone remember "the coolest guy on the planet" contest?

    Cheers,

    Scott

Good idea Scott... though we'd love it if more members could take part. An SEO competition would probably be confined to the intermediate marketer at least... Sorry Paul, you can't take part LOL!

A newbie, that's what we all are, would find it overwhelming.. Probably it could be our side competitions hehehe...

Keep them ideas coming. We'd love to hear from the members.

@ Fendi - No prob, I'll think of something more newbie friendly.

@ Bam - Basically, you pick a keyword that has little to no competition and everyone tries to rank for that keyword. For example, "Coolest Marketer on Honest Work From Home Success" might be the phrase. Everyone then creates videos/articles to try and be #1, making them the "Coolest Marketer" for this forum.

A similar contest was done for "Coolest guy on the planet", just type that into Google and you'll see what it's about

How about an eBook content contest?
Everyone submit a chapter of their best "how-to" tips in their area of expertice. (even newbies have knowledge) Doesn't have to be in the IM topic. This would be like a giant JV. At the end of the contest, chapters are divided into niches and compiled into new ebooks that can be distributed to everyone's lists.

    LOL just a thought.

That sounds like a cool idea, maybe we can start with some general topics first, and it would give us an idea of where to start.
    Good idea...

This would give a number of benefits to everyone involved. It would give a series of products to every member to sell in new niches and if everyone involved agreed to shoot it out to their lists it would give the newbies(and oldies) a "leg-up" by giving them exposure to new leads to grow their own lists.

It's been done and it was very successful on the warrior forum. I contributed a chapter to it as well. It's called "100 Warriors Ambush the Web".

The creator made a grib, but it also took him months to put it together. You could easily duplicate that here and it would be of great value.

Yes, I can see where it would take some coordinating, but I think it could be divied up into smaller niches so not quite an overload on one person.

Do you mean 'to a smaller scale'? Yes, it would not have to be 100 contributors. You could easily do 10 and make a great, high value product.

Wel since all the topics would not be in IM, I meant we could divie it down into categories...like home improvement how to's, IM how-to's, health how-to's, etc. Then it would be more manageable and would not all have to be done by one person. One person could be assigned to compile all the entries in one category.

Doing a collaberative product will help newbies see the process in action too. Give them some hands on experience that would boost their confidence. Most newbies have done enough studying to have the knowledge to be successful, what they lack is confidence enough to believe they can put everything they have learned into action. By doing a joint project with input from both newbies and experienced people they will get hands on experience and then be off to the races in their own business.

I misunderstood the original idea. I was thinking of an ebook comprised of multiple marketer's expertise in different categories such as traffic, SEO, PPC, article marketing, social media, etc. It could also be as specific as 'traffic' or any other topic most desired by Forum members to know more about.

A general ebook contest could be cool, but wondering how you would measure a winner with such versatile topics?

Yes, I like your thoughts too.
I was just thinking that for newbies it is hard to break into and get ranked in the IM niche with so many experienced marketers out there competing. With a smaller, more targeted niche that has a greater number of available longtail keywords it might be easier for them to succeed.
SO I thought that if we had a product creation in a totally different niche than IM we could compete for who gets highest placement in Google, or who makes the first sale.
So many newbies get stuck on trying to break into the IM market by trying to create their own product when they really don't have enough knowledge or experience yet because their mentors are all in the IM biz. So they try to copy the big guys and fail.
They don't consider that there is a ton of money to be made in niches that have nothing to do with IM.

I did the TDC a few years ago. You are right it is an excellent training course for newbies. It is pretty intensive though. Requires a good deal of time to focus on it.

How about having every member to creat their own wordpress or blogspot and the one which ranks highest after a certain number of days wins?

Just make sure every member registers a random name or word as the name of their blog.

    Ab1.blogspot.com, ab2.blogspot.com etc..
