I like the ideas so far such as the ebook, headlines, but I think the ebook would be a great idea but if the ebook idea is selected lets start the competition with a quick tutorial of how to make a document iinto a pdf using only free programs.

This way even the complete beginner would find it easier to take part, and it would show others how simple it is to create an ebook, and may take some of the mystery out of trying to create their own product.

You could still make the ebook a very obscure topic such as
"the reproduction habits of the ping pong ball"

Great idea. I have a list of some free online PDF creators I can post for anyone looking for resources if they don't want to download software.

While making pdfs would be a useful skill to be practised, there would potentially be a problem in compiling an ebook of pdfs made by using a variety of pdf makers, and as members are spread across the globe the. English used would not be the same in every case, some would be US others UK, etc.

Also for those whose native language is not English it could be a problem because although the content could be good the sentence construction would make it difficult to understand. This is not written as a criticism but comes from years of experience of technical writing using subject matter from contributors from the US, Britain, other European countries and those from the Indian sub-continent.

If we decide on a compiled ebook we would need the text in native format as well as the pdf.

Presumably individual articles would also contain a bio box, with the option of including a link. Again some pdf makers permit the use of clickable links while others may not.

Yes, I understand that, and the task of compiling them would be pretty a big undertaking, depending on how many actually entered. Offering them as a series of individual PLR products for redistribution would make them useable as is, without having a problem with different software, dialects, etc. being used.

Whether in plain text or individual pdfs [simple to make actually] compiling as one larger pdf is not that difficult.Submitting as plain text and then compiling as one pdf would take me about 2 hours for 100 entries or less.Since each individual author would be given credit in the pdf pages then dialects would not be much of a concern, as long as the submitters do their best in proofreading for spelling and grammar , no matter UK English or American English.
Segmenting into chapters in a pdf can be managed also.
The lengthiest work involves an intro with chapter listing and possibly article menu breakdowns.

So, if we go this route then members can pick a topic they know the best and start writing. Each member can start a new thread here for their topic and get input from others if desired to prevent errors and misinformation. If several members have the same topic then it comes down to viewpoints and perspectives and still can be included in a final pdf or as individual PLR articles or books.

The length of an entry should not be the defining criteria for winning because copy writers have a distinct advantage. So do speed demons in typing.[That leaves me out.]
Like most things in IM , it's content, content, content.

As per various niches,go for it.This forum is about IM but application for any niche is still paramount.Emphasis on the MAKE MONEY MARKET is not what this competition is about .That is what Kevin, Paul, Tim and others do best.We should be submitting ways of implementing the knowledge derived from this forum as it applies to any niche of your choosing, real or virtual, by means of examples rather than an e-book or articles that are too generalized.I already have 30,000 articles and e-books like that. These can be used in a large resource page as PLR articles or E-books along with other resource links .Each submission could include a bio-boxor resource box with a relevant link or a relevant affiliate link typed in as code rather than a forum hyperlink so conversion later on into publishable articles or pdf is easier.Forum code and regular html code are not the same, so forum hyperlinks would not convert properly in a copy/paste situation for a final compilation.

Before we decide this route for the February competition we would like more members to say Yay or Nay.

Otherwise there won't be enough entries and Reed and I will revert to our original thoughts on this competition.Other suggestions are still welcome but we would like to decide quickly.
The Best Headline idea is also excellent and may get more entries in the short term.

Yeah ,what about a salesletter design+an ebook (full product creation)
and the winner will win maybe a banner ad in this forum for one month promoting his product he created.
i will be surprised if i don't see at least 100 member joining this competition.

Perhaps we can get Kevin or Paul to send a forum wide PM to speed up viewing and responses to this thread.

Initially I voted for the ebook contest and now, I get a feeling that ebook contest might not be the best idea. It would take more time to research, create and format ebook. I am not too sure about how many people can actually participate.

I think headline contest is a good idea.

I like all three as well Josh and maybe we have Feb, March and April there.

My money goes we kick off Feb...with headlines....but will leave Bill and Reed to make the decision and think through the parameters etc.

After my highly complicated January effort....which those that took part really enjoyed, but we Admins had to judge...which was not so easy...

Over to you Bill and Reed.

What are we going to do?

I have already talked to Paul and agree the prizes.....I think you'll like them.

Now that my hands have stopped shaking and I have calmed down a bit..
    What about
Headlines done in a banner and then blog about it and each others. This way we would improve on our banner productions and improve on our writing skills for later article writing etc competitions?

best wishes and all the best to all
    Vince

PS Kevin has set me an extra task as one of January's winners. I have to sing and dance in the forum sooooooooooo I have put my thinking cap on and when I have fully recovered from all the paperatzi and media coverage, interview after interview, hotel parties, guided tours of production workshops and visiting the postman in hospital after he strained one or two things delivering the fantastic prize, I will (interruption from wife...wake up Vince wake up Vince, you need to get us some money to pay the bills, stop dreaming you nutter and start going to bed at a reasonable time)

Wow, everyone has had there thinking caps on! I have been on the forum a matter of 2 months entered 2 competitions and won 2 prizes which is great. But, the fact is we need numbers in these competitions and people just joining or people who don't jump straight in need to be coaxed out of there shyness and encouraged into the competitions.

To do this we need a very steady start and a gradual build up of both confidence and competence, my suggestion centres around a subject lines (as in an email) and headlines.

To take a little pressure of the participants rather than ask entrants too think of just a sales line couple this up with something completely different, maybe historical context something a bit off the wall ie

King takes 1 in the eye and it's all change NOW!

Now that might be too far out on the fringes for some, but rather than rack our brains with the type of recycled headline and subject lines that we have all seen hundreds of times, let's get our brains agile and thinking that this headline making process is good fun, not torture!

March competition takes the project on a stage with some content for our new agile headline writing ability and then a third month for the completion of the project.

If we want numbers in the competitions and surely that can only improve the whole forum we can only move as quick as the slowest members if we want to bring everyone along.

    AND

Don't forget that the EMMC kicks off very soon! Yippeee That is going to occupy a lot of time. A nice little bit of down time would be come over to the competition and think up a sales headline and a famous event from history, just for the fun of it!

Whatever is decided I will be in there.

    Best wishes

    Mark

    Ding Ding Ding
Thinks out loud...Hmmmmmmmmm this being a marketing forum, it should have some serious marketers in it. Soooooooooo if they can't use a marketing idea to get their own kind to take part in the competitions here where everyone is friendly and nice and cuddly what hope will they have to market to the real world?

Maybe a competition to drive others to the competition and to be admitted for it they must provide what drove them to it. (In my case it's pure insanity) Thus providing winners on the basis of how many entrants they incited to take part as indicated by the source of the entrants reason for entering. Thinks very quietly.....stop gibbering you old fool and go to bed you will be OK in the morning.... hmmmmmmmm how can I be admitted?

Ok for the competition, how about we have to create a video and what you have to do is promote this forum in some way and either the funniest or the most professional gets there video loaded onto this forum or something like you tube?

There are lots of trial video software on the internet to use so everyone can enter.

Some of us are camera shy or anti-photogenic. Can I rent out my beautiful daughters to read scripts in front of the cameras ?

Regarding headlines for a competition: headline with the relevant niche in brackets should work real well to get people to vote and know why they are voting.
