Default Have your say for February's Competition

We've done some serious arm-twisting again and got some more great prizes for the February competition ... but more about the prizes later ...

Bill and I have been thinking about next competition and what we want you to do for it. We have some ideas but we would really like to hear from you all.

Sorry no prizes for your ideas (unless Paul or Kevin care to donate something).

Hi Reed, how abut a "Sales Letter/Page" comp - you could give us a product (real or not) and we have to write a sales letter.

Whether we have to format it for the web or not is open to debate (ie sales page format)

    cheers

I would suggest a 'How-to' tutorial contest. To make it fair for all the members, lets make it an ebook contest - not video (accent problem).

It could be anything from graphic design to ftp to anything that help IMers.

These tutorials can later be compiled into an ebook and every Author gets a personalized ebook to distribute to his list/customers etc

And every article in this ebook will have author resource box, so that authors get enough publicity.

This ebook can be sold/distributed for free to generate publicity for this forum. We can even have a how-to domain bought and these articles can be published there - every article containing adsense ads and click bank products etc and the profit shared with authors.

LOL, I deserve to be in Marketing dept (not to forget, my commissions from the profit if my idea gets chosen

Since one of the main goals for the competitions is to encourage members to take action and step outside their comfort zone to take a step closer to success, and since product creation seems to be a place that most new people seem to be a little afraid of, why not have a product creation competition?

You choose a topic and everyone has to submit a simple ebook on the subject.

This would give everyone some experience in researching a topic and building a simple 10 page PDF report.

At the end of the competition the ebooks could be compiled into a large product or offered as a series of PLR reports.

    Thanks Anthony,

I think it is one of the biggest stumbling blocks for most new marketers. Lack of faith in their ability to create their own products. We all know that it is that one thing that can take them to the next level of success but it seems to scare the pants off of most people LOL

I think that is a great idea Anthony.

Could be that people come up with a "Copy" for the landing page for a product. Will get those creative writing juices going again!

    Best Wishes

We just had a sales letter competition in Nov/Dec, so it's probably too soon to repeat that.

    cheers,

All good suggestions... especially like Cathy's and Eric's idea (slight angle on it though and write a headline the Ted Nicholas way - within 17 words or less).

I think after the Xmas squeeze page contest where only a few of us entered, probably best to leave the sales letter comp for now!

    That's me done!
    Cheers,
    Nig

I don't think that video should be excluded. Why not use any media that is available.

    My suggestion:
Headlines are said to be the most important part of writing. So how about a headline competition, where contestants have to come up with headings and subheadings for a item.

There could be a different item each week to keep things from getting boring.

And a prize for each weekly winner.

    cheers,
    Eric G.
    I like your ideas too.
Headlines are definitely an important skill everyone can always improve on.

Nig, yes, 17 words or less is a great idea. Having a headline a paragraph long doesn't really grab your attention. LOL

Headline comp is a great idea as long as a weird obscure topic is decided on rather than IM or Weight Loss - we need to make it so we have to do some research rather than look at the last 40 products that sucked us in to buy because of the headline!!

How about creating a headline based around an e-book we are selling eg. on the "Mating habits of the Meerkat?"

It would need to be really obscure to get us thinking - IMHO

    Anthony

ps I am sure the forum leaders would do that anyway

    Keith,

"Mating habits of the Meerkat?" - Now that's a challenging topic...

Mind you, I guess the Meerkats on the TV adverts would just say... "Simples!"

As a marketing forum, skills in developing marketing skills is the best way to go and using the best suggestions on how to improve the initial concept.

Therefore I would recommend a prize for the original concept and prizes for the best suggestion on how to improve upon it. Say for instance if one of us has a problem with speaking English fluently clearly and precisely and would therefore not want to go before a camera, another one of us who does have that ability could go before the camera and read what the first person could or would not do. Or we could all go and try it and the best effort is used in the end overall production. (If only I didn't ramble on so much)

Reminds me of Bill Myers videos on how to improve information products.

    best wishes
    Vince

That sounds like a good idea and maybe we can package everything, sell it and share in the profit?
