Gee, looks like everyone is jumping into this.

Can I suggest that Entries are just made in normal size font?
With just bold, italic, and underlining used for emphasis?

You don't have to attract people to your headline in this post.
It's the content that's important - not the trimmings.

And smaller fonts will make it much easier for people to read the hundreds of headlines that will probably be entered into this competition.

Another suggestion:
Moderators will probably be cutting and pasting adverts to help them make a decision.
It would be a help to put your forum username under your headline to make it easier for them.
here's a sample of what I mean:

"Here's my fantastic headline which will surely win last prize"

Personally I would have it as one entry per member because if it goes into numourous pages I think the members voting will get put off & maybe not bother to go through all of them. That ofcourse depends on how many enter, I could be wrong...

Big problem I see with that is that you will dampen the momentum somewhat and we'll miss all Vince's future contributions.

Seriously from the last competition I saw a group of people who tried very hard by adding more entries to encourage others to do so - by restricting it to one entry per person this option is no longer available to them.

Or it may be simpler if towards the end of the competition, entrants were asked to choose 5 of the headlines that they have posted that would be put into a poll, or new post to be considered for final judging.

Sounds like a good idea to me. It will also allow us to learn to write great headlines and tidy things up for the judging. To me learning what is a great headline, submitting it and getting feedback from others is what this competition is all about.

Maybe we should bury the Vicar so we don't run the risk of Kevin being recalled to his former profession.

I was saving that idea for when my January competition prize arrives it would say

"My wife laughed when I entered an internet competition but she stopped when she broke her back helping the postman get the prize through the front door"

I was thinking with all these authorities saying what can be used in advertisements to stay legal I could use it as evidence.

Seriously though... If we churn out as many as we can, not only will it be good practice for us all but are leaders here will also get their reward by way of ideas that they too can benefit from and therefore they will win as well as us.

Also the idea of brainstorming that I have come across from time to time shows that by and large the best ideas come when you get to around the twentieth suggestion.

Or it could be that when my wife goes shopping for clothes she ends up going back to the first shop and picks the first one she saw so the first one posted might win.

DOH! I am having trouble with my r's
I have noticed that other people have had the same problem with their r's too.

In this case it is missing from the end of you as it should read your. I noticed that this also happened with a banner I did in January. I wonder if statistically the r's receives more use than other letters on the keyboard and therefore the r's on my computers are getting overworked. Hmmmmmmmm

Bed time Vince - your brain needs a rest after all that effort.

In past competitions there have frequently been too few entrants rather than too many and have at times had more prizes than competitors so that everyone who entered was a winner.

For this reason we made this competition easy to enter to encourage as many as possible. We also responded to members wishes in how to structure the competition.

As with many things the first attempt is not necesarily the best, and you improve with practice. So for this reason, at this stage, we are not restricting the number of attempts any one member can make for the competition, although we appreciate this may later become necesary.
