I've waited to vote until the last minute - and find myself violently disagreeing with some of the things in the articles so I can't in all honesty vote for any of them. Sorry.

On the questions - I voted for the one I felt represented a question that I wanted to ask - but, I'm afraid I was somewhat disheartened by the comments posted as answers to some of the questions. I think that the answers should have been kept completely away from the competition.

Putting links in my signature here would be a waste of time. No search engine will ever see them - so I won't get any backlink juice from them. Besides which - I've got about 100 sites....

Maybe I've got it wrong then because I thought the idea of a signature file in a forum was to get traffic to your sites from the people who read you posts and replies and if you get anything from SEO that's a bonus.

If you disagree with any of the answers or comments to the questions in this competition why not let us know so we can all debate it and learn.

They say people attract similar people to themselves so maybe take of the grumpy old man hat a bit more often and you might attract some not so grumpy people.

I'm a bit disappointed it's over, but it did become a marathon for us folk that only manage to get here late at night!

It was either Kevin or Reed - only a minute to tick a vote sure, but several hours to go through the entries and their follow-up.

Well done the entrants, and I found a lot of the responses very interesting too! They do seem to reflect the characters of the Postees, as much as shed light on the issues.

I'm just a cynical old geezer of course, so that is bound to shine through - haha.

I think I managed to vote, but I had to get off to bed smartish as my extremely "Significant Other" had woken up and realised how late I was staying up yet AGAIN!

I just managed to complete my VAT Return before midnight and send the payment OnLine too (the long weekend will delay its arrival) so I'm totally whacked now - this is a bit of wind down relaxation!

Maybe I'll find time to enter a Competition soon, then I'll find out what it's like to have your "baby" kicked about and derided.

As we had less people who entered than we had prizes then some prizes will be unclaimed.

We have been discussing with Kevin and Paul how to distribute the prizes so that as many as possible are given away because if we had stuck with the original distribution then most prizes would not have been claimed.

The 4 members who entered both parts and submitted at least one article and one question will each win

as will the members who posted the next 6 most voted for questions.

As with all competitions you have to enter to win. There could have been up to 50 prizewinners if more of you had entered.

Yes, you have got it wrong - although not entirely. I use my sig in other forums to boost SEO ratings. Indeed, posting in forums totally unrelated to my products helps SEO. It works very well. I do get some traffic from people who read posts - but Google analytics shows that the overwhelming number of visitors I get on my sites come from search engines. Which is exactly what I'd expect.

As it happens the stuff I sell isn't the sort of stuff that this forum, in general, promotes. That is, I don't sell items which tell you how to make money from selling on the net - which is pretty much all I see in sig links here.

And, finally, this is the only forum I know where the whole sig thing is completely the wrong way round. Everywhere else it's a case of not showing your sig until you've made a number of posts - at which point everyone can see them. This means that people who genuinely contribute - and presumably have some valuable information to impart - can have their sigs seen by people who are brand new and, possibly, struggling. Here the 'newbies' (I hate that term) have to post 10 times before they see such things. I find that an unbelievable stance, which I've stated elsewhere.

If the forum is truly about helping people then it would make help available to those who simply visited. By doing so it would attract more people who wanted help and then stayed on to contribute. As it is someone who hasn't got a clue has to make 10 posts in order to see what others are offering. That, frankly, is negative marketing.

However, the link in my sig is about as positive as you can get.

Uncle Albert i tend to agree with you on the **Newbie** sigs. Over the past month there has been so many new forum members who just come here for the .edu site, to promote then leave and to plain spam us.

The admins have a very hard job to do indeed.

Why can't we just get rid of the sigs in the main forum areas and if they want to promote themselves then just make an area for them (say the affilate section) then this forum can get back to what it's supposed to do and that's educate, share and help anyone who is serious about making money online and by that i don't mean those who post in the welcome area saying, i want to make money please help

Quite a few of us market in other niches as well IM and use pen names. Agree this is an IM niche forum but some of the other forums are not so focused. Haven't tried sigs links for SEO but might try it.

Let's face it you have to contribute useful information in forums for people to take notice of you and eventually get curious and click on your sig links whereas SEO might not be that fussy.
