Default Scrapping UserNames

.
.
How would members feel if they had to use their real names as identifiers in this forum ?

And not just first names. Their first and last names.

I was encouraged to join another forum
and thought I had joined it yesterday
but when my login failed to give me access
I discovered that registration required my full name
as my login name.

And, the registration requires members share their location as well.

The ramifications from such sharing of information like that seems quite alarming to me. Am I being paranoid or do others agree ????

I second Mihira on that. It's OK to share details with people one on one but in a forum the whole idea of user names is for protection.
Ok, I do use my real photo but that is also on my site as well.

Oh Vivipops,

You cannot beat identity theft can you? Firstly they'll have your name and then if they look at your profile then they'll get your email address.

So, in short i say no way jose

I'm a self confessed paranoid...
I have to think twice just to fill in opt-in forms and sometimes that's enough
to stop me signing up.

So, a definite no-no for me too.

I have no problem using my real name in this forum.

But I wouldn't do so in many other forums.
You have to decide on a case by case basis where you use your real name.

And I'm more likely to respond to questions by people who use their real name than to someone with a user name like sdirb760-fertang-fertang

Eric g.

One of the best nicknames I know is Kevin Potts ...

I mean ... who could possibly have that as a real name ....

I agree with using your real name in here if you want because it is a forum that we all know has integrity.
I use Laurencewins because that is my branding.

I also agree that people using usernames that make no sense are not very good.

many user names are for logical reasons but a mix of random letters and/or numbers seems to portray someone hiding something.
