Default Newbie Mini-Bootcamp

Quick one here...
  • If you are continually looking at all the new 'products' that are coming on the market, then stop this right now.
  • Your money should be spent on basics (like hosting, autoresponder, etc).
  • You can also purchase stuff that can make you money (PLR or MRR products for example).
  • If you can afford it then hire a mentor.
  • Cull your email subscriptions down to those which are of consistent value to you.
  • Adopt the vendor mindset, as opposed to the buyer mindset
  • Start creating products (takes time and effort - live with it) and build an email list.
  • Remember, it's a long journey. There is no such thing as instant gratification.
  • Get into the habit of researching before asking (this is a better way to learn).
  • Plus other stuff, which more experienced members than myself can advise you on.

Shoot me down in flames if I'm wrong please. I've been there before (not so long ago) and I want to help.

Keith

Absolutely well said Keith! I would also add when hiring a mentor make sure you dont just hire anyone. Do your research and get in with someone who really will help you succeed as oppossed to all the "fake" "wannabe" gurus out there.

I know that these tougher economic times has made it a desperate search for some people to make money, but they also need to remember it also creates the "snake oil" salesmen who are more than happy to take what little money they have and promise them incredible wealth.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is and if your business is not built on good solid education and ethics it will never succeed.

Thanks vpgemini...yeah, goes without saying that one should check out the credentials of a potential mentor. Good point! --->

As Cathy says there are a lot of dodgy salesfolk out there, selling the 'shovel' so to speak. As always, providing great value will get you everywhere.

Yours, sort of soberly - Keith (hic

Work does not have to be nasty tasting.....like anything else......

You have to develop a taste for it......

Keith, you've given some very good advice.

I believe that the most important internet skills have nothing to do with technology.

Excellent post Keith, well said!

One of the hardest skills to master, it seems, is to learn how to invest your time and your money wisely. You only have so much of either, so you must be careful. There are many out there who promise quick wealth with no knowledge and no work. We should all know better than that, but it is so tempting.....

It just doesn't work that way. There are certain people who do provide very useful tools that will make the journey much easier and greatly increase your chances for success. It might be possible to build a house with a a fork and a screwdriver, but it's going to take a very long time. There is a great deal of difference in investing in tools, and buying a ticket on the dream train.

Anything in this business requires tons of learning and hard work. Frankly, it's more than many are willing to invest. The rewards are wonderful, once you get there, but the trip is a bitch.

IM will separate the dreamers from the doers. Which will you be?

I know.

I had great visions of sitting around in my underwear, checking my emails in the morning, and getting filthy rich.

I always laughed at people when they said they were "working" sitting in front of a computer. Turns out there was something to that....

True, but as soon as I get back to my lake house next month, I'm going to get over it.

The fish will be bitting by then and I'm going to leave ya'll on your own.
