Are you a Cage Builder or a Key Dropper?

I just received an email from Chris Guillebeau, whose blog is about non conformity and unconventioanl strategies.

In his blog he quotes an old Sufi poem about cage builders and key droppers.

The cage builders do everything to keep their knowledge secret, and try to keep people in their system.

The Key Droppers go around dropping keys and sharing great information so that people don't have to stay locked into any one place.

This is a great way to look at things.
Microsoft is a cage builder. Linux is a key dropper. Apple is a cage builder.

build less cages; drop more keys.

This post really struck home with me, because I guess it describes what I've been doing for years.
But it amazes me how many people won't pick up the keys and unlock their cages.
