Default List Management Systems

Being a newbie just starting out I have a couple of questions?
Is it immediately necessary to purchase a list management system like AWeber or Listmail Pro(spelling??)?
Has anyone used these? Do they work effectively?
Are there any free systems out there that work?
Looking forward to your response...
Greg

This depends on your usage and need.
For mailing lists alone (like google groups, yahoo groups, etc) you can use mailman Mailman, the GNU Mailing List Manager the open source mailing list manager.

Quite right Mihira, however if you want to start to build a serious online business, I would say that an autoresponder is an indispensible investment.

You can rent one on a monthly basis like Aweber for $19 pm for up to 500 customers, or you can pay about $300 and buy one outright with no limit on the number of customers who can subscribe. The purchase routes vary according to power and complexity, but a really good start would be:

Shopping Cart Software | Ecommerce Software - Interspire

Once at the Interspire site, click on Email Marketer.

Domain, autoresponder, squeeze page, free product to give away and a relationship building sequence of emails, is all you need to be successful online.....plus a solid amount of patience and tenacity.

Patience and tenacity is KEY to success.

Even if your first email campaign does not work, keep pushing it and find a converting email campaign + list.

I personally use getresponse for over 20 different websites that capture leads for certain niches. They are much easier to use than aweber, and they don't have a limit.

Cheers

I'm on the other side of the fence on this particular subject.
Mostly I spend my time tuning mail servers to throw spam out.

Mihira,

I do hope that when you say you are tuning servers to throw spam out....you do not mean that you are one of those ghastly people who are throwing it out at innocent people like us and filling up our In Boxes, but you actually mean catching it and stopping it

I dont catch it and stop it. I stop it at the gates and wont let it come in at all.

Catching and stopping means the cost of the email has already been paid.

For setting up a first time online marketing campaing.... is buidling a list the first thing to do?

All in all.. you would still need a website and a squeez page right?

Josh:

1. You need an autoresponder Aweber of Email Marketer 5.5. from Interspire or ARP3 (Autoresponse Plus)

2. You need a free giveaway that's quality be this a report, a newletter or a physical product, which is relevant to your niche.

3. You need a squeeze page with opt in that will capture the first name and email address - it will automatically get dropped into your autoresponder

4. You need a series of relationship building emails, prepopulated in your autoresponder, so that it just starts sending them out and builds a relationship with your prospect.

5. You need traffic to your squeeze page - FREE or PAID or combination

Thank you Kevin.

So I'll need a domain, hosting and niche research to be effective in this campaign?

What's the difference between the two? Black or White Hat?

You don't want to get involved in the black stuff mate. It's unethical and can often times be illegal. White in this sense simple means using tried and tested tools and strategies to build a proper online business.

Red face Re: List Management Systems

Black doesn't sound good... I want to stay clean and ethical.

Out of curiosity.... what would be considered blackhat marketing? I'm reading and researching strategies and want to steer away from anything that's not in sync with what is real and sincere.

Thanks Nick.

Its basically anything that the big guys like Google and Yahoo etc consider a gross infringement of their terms.

Just do a search for Black Hat Internet Marketing and have a read around the subject....but don't spend too much time there.

Kevin, are you suggesting that this is a software download that you can install on your own web server?

I have a couple of questions...

To start off, is it better to rent an email campaign system or buy the software to run on your own site?

I see some simple comparison points:

Rent = You can use it for as long as you need and pay monthly and no technical knowledge required to set up on your own server. Most probably limited to a single login user.
Buy = You can use it for other affiliates down line form you i.e. unlimited users, however more technical as you will most probably need to install it on your own server.

I suppose you could rent until you make some money, and then purchase a system and import your contacts from one system to the other? Obviously over time you will get more experience and so the technical aspects we become less daunting
