You are certainly not wasting you time, but like every other aspect of building an online business, this area requires, attention, commitment, discipline and action.

One of the current challenges remains the cost of good quality gear - hardware and software and the space to easily just pull out the camera and start filming.

Yes anybody can guerrilla market at an entry level, but if you intend to use lots and lots of video, learn the craft and do it well.

I think Kevin makes some really good points - I watch a lot of videos - I also turn a lot off after a few seconds. I like them short, well thought out, to the point and if the person comes across as nervous it's much harder to take them seriously as an authority. So I'll watch them if they are really good, but otherwise you've lost me.

I only recently start using videos on my blog site, and it's the best thing I've ever done. The great thing about using videos, visitors can see who you really are and that you are a real person and not just someone hiding behind words.

Saying that; I also use scripts along with my vids.

Video is defiantly big business something which I'm learning now. Planing on setting up a video blog linked with my main project.

On a side not there could be major changes to how video upload and 'free' traffic from YouTube are going to work with google being taken to court over a video on YouTube could mean tighter screening of uploads and a possible kick in the teeth for the IM market, knowing google and there disliking to one page websites.

From what I've heard, video can be extremely effective (and lucrative !).

Plus, it can be a great way to recycle content; just turn your articles into videos and use tubemogul or some other service/tool to submit to multiple video sites.

For an added bonus, build a few links to your videos and embed them in sites like expertvillage, ning, squidoo, hubpages, etc. for even more views/seo boost.

Also, make sure you capture their attention immediately and get right to the point with something like "In this video I'm going to show you how to...". Be sure to put a link to your site/offer first thing in the description. For added results, add a text box at the beginning and end of the video directing people to your site.

Anyway, good luck!

Simon

Videos are great when you have someone like Kevin doing them - but there are some people who have a great face for radio, and maybe don't realise it. I don't mean this unkindly, but I think there are times when I probably would have bought a product if I had just read a good sales page. Then a video appears, and something (often can't even define what exactly it is) turns me off about the presenter - i just get a kind of "vibe" that makes me click off, when it could actually be a good product.
But, of course, there are also times when I like the presenter so much that I buy a crappy product. Works both ways - but testing is always a good idea.

Video is so powerful, I am taking the time to learn the process of creating it, and using it to drive traffic by uploading videos to video sharing sites like YouTube and TubeMogul, for every product I promote. Going forward video will be in every campaign I create.

Videos most definitely work and the reason they work so well is that people are basically lazy and don't want to read book after book wasting time when they can watch a step by step video on how something is done. It is much easier and faster to deliver information.
