    Hi Adam,

There are two sides when working from home - pacing yourself and making money.

People generally compare their current JOB with what it would be like working from home and this is not a good idea, because the idea of working from home seems great!

From my own experience when working from home, you need a daily work schedule and then you need the self dscipline to make sure you stick to it! Otherwise burn out is just around the corner.

I have my own office at home and wireless broad band, so family distractions aren't a problem. The problem stems from the fact you don't have to travel to work, there are no set breaks during the day and no finish for the day so off home, because you are already there.

Also, If you didn't finish stuff during the day - well you can just nip into the office for a minute or two (yeah right!).

When I started working from home I had heaps of work to get through and nobody to distract me - I was a CEO in my previous life so the nature of this work was decided upon by the demands of other people - at home, without distractions, apart from my wife's "subtle" comments, I was working 13 -14 hour days, sometimes weekends as well - STUPID!

    Pace yourself.

What to work on and make money with. Well I would suggest to continue what you are doing with Aff. Mark. with a focus of increasing you income from the source - it has proved lucrative for many people.

At the same time, take the ideas you have and look around to see what others may be doing, get to know the niche or the method or both. This will both increase your knowledge and perspective, giving you more confidence to proceed down a particular path.

I haven't been doing this long and I know that the time I spent just looking around has been invaluable because you get to understand where things fit.

    Hope this helps

I would suggest that you have diverse income streams and do not put you eggs in one basket. For example at present I have the following income streams:

    1. Adsense
    2. Amazon
    3. Clickbank
    4. Plimus
    5. SEO services

The point being if one goes down then I can still survive.

    Regards

    Nigel

This thread is just too good to be read especially for the newbies. Like you, I am also in the verge of leaving my “full time” job but I think everyone here is right, you need to develop expertise first and once you have stabilized yourself that’s the only time you can do so. It won’t take long, just focus.

Self emploment is a better option, but for this read a lot and spend more time in researching various topics, its pros and cons. Write your strengths and weaknesses. Make a plan and then start. All the best!

    Hi Adamcm,

    My 2 cents...

Have you taken the time to consider the emotional affects of leaving full time employment?

This is something that most people don't consider. Of course, we all see the 'freedom' and the 'comfort' but work does give us more than headaches and a bad nights sleep!

    With work you get:

    • A social life - Super important for anyone
    • A routine - To work at home you need formidable discipline (Have you ever done martial arts?
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
    • Reliance - Yes, we know that companies can downsize after 30 years of your blood, sweat and tears but there is a comforting sense of security that comes with employment.
    Hope this helps a little

    Couple of other thought...

    • Spread your bets - probably a no brainer but I thought I'd put it in there!
    • Residule income products - it's an idea to sell only products that are membership based. This way, unless people leave the program you're selling your income grows exponentially.
    Best,

It is something which takes lot of courage and perseverance in my view.. All you need is the confidence and the zeal to get it... like you would want water in a desert or a person who might need 5 more minutes to say unsaid words before dying.. increase the hunger... However, don't forget that discipline and knowledge is what will take you ahead and always make sure that you go one step at a time as there are just too many opportunities to earn from home.. but one at a time..

    Onwards and upwards..

    Nick

There is a lot of folks here with good advice

it's important to know that most people don't do well starting an online business, mainly due to a few things like:

    1. can you commit to working a set amount of time on your business everyday? (do not consider browsing online and checking emails to be working on your business) as an example, if you are working a part time job, you would spend say 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, do you commit the same time or more to your new business?

    2. do you make a daily plan of action?( a specific list of things to do while working on your business to give you direction)

    3. can you work on 1 thing without getting tired/discouraged and jumping into something else?(can you be committed and focused?)

    4. In the brick and mortar business world, it has been determined that most business's need to be able to support themselves for 2 years without expecting a profit, while it may not take you 2 years, can you live with no profit, but constant work for say 1 year?

    5. make no mistake, the people sitting on the beach drinking margaritas are few, and most of the really successful people online have worked very hard and then scaled up with there profits to grow there business.(are you willing to work your butt off for say 1-5 years in order to be really successful ?(most people are not willing to do the work and suffer the discomfort short term (1-5 years) in order to achieve the lifestyle they want.

Before you jump into any business online or offline, you should take a hard look at yourself and ask these kind of questions, before you give up your regular paycheck!

While I don't want to discourage people, I want people to be prepared for the reality of starting a new business and to know that real work is involved.

I suggest that you consider leaving your current job after earning a consistent income from your Internet Marketing business. The income should be enough in such a way that you are comfortable with it. You don't need to rush.

    I hope that helps.

Moving from 8-5 straight to working from home is certainly a big risk.
Have you done your homework? Have you investigated the different ways of working from home?
There is a steep learning curve involved, and you don't want to cut off your only form of income while you possibly spend weeks (at the minimum) or months learning whats involved.
The best idea would be to start from home part-time, learning what you can, until you actually start earning some money.
Then consider giving up your day job when you are earning on a regular basis, when you want to up your campaign or efforts.
Although "part-time" is a little misleading. I can spend longer on the computer at home than I do at my "other" job.

ps. Watch out for the dreaded information overload. That's where you are trying to learn so much you end up doing nothing but learning.
Learning new and different ways to do something is great, but it doesn't pay the bills.
You only earn when you implement something you have learnt.

Whatever you decide to do - Good Luck

Best of luck to you, for whenever you wish to make the move from going to work every day … to work in home on your computer.

My suggestion is, look at your insurance benefits for your family, as well as vacation and holiday time.

When you're part-time or Internet marketing income exceeds the total income plus benefits . And remember, if you're in the USA, you will probably have to pay your Social Security tax 2-times, if you're self-employed … just check with your accountant.

So you're probably have to figure your annual income +30 to 40% to equal the income you need from the Internet to consider quitting.

Wishing you and your family all the best … Ron

some of the reasons why online firms fail is that they lack proper informations on how they tackle there competitors.

They should also have persistence when it comes to hard work. Since like a physical athlete you need endurance and cardio stuffs to outlast obstacles.
    Great
