Default What mistakes in IM have you made? Me Many! Let's find our answers and move on.

I started this thread to heard about mistakes, because that is how we learn. Right?

I made many mistakes in my life and I am sure to make more, but that is ok.

In Internet Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, IM what ever you want to call it. Mistakes are easy to make no matter what your IM experience is. If you didn't make mistakes you wouldn't be human. Right?

Some examples of my failures, mistakes, or what ever you call it!

    1. Think you don't need to know how to at least build a web page.(even if it is a free method)

    2. Thinking you put a few keywords in Google and bam (Money Bags overnight)

    3. Not building a list for my niche

    4. Not protecting my identity like I should have.

That is just to name a few and believe me there are plenty more.
Life itself is a learning experience, but those are in the past now.

I want to hear from as many people as I can on this thread even if it is just one mistake, because somebody could learn from it and you could learn from somebody else.

The biggest mistake you can make is to think you can't do something. Because that is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Stay positive. Learn from your mistakes.

I guess you could call these mistakes but I look at them as learning experiences:

    1. Building a website around a keyword that has no searches (my first website)
    2. Buying every product looking for the holy grail (there isn't one)
    3. Not taking action as soon as I learned something (I just kept learning and learning)
    4. Not keeping on top of my programmers (they took me for a rise and lose a few thousand)

I only started getting good results once I stopped buying "the next best thing" and started just taking action on what I had learned.

One other thing to mention... make sure you always have integrity, if you don't one day it will come back to bite you in the ass.

Hope this helps some people out there!

so many I'd be embarrassed to list them all,
in summary, not developing & following a plan to conclusion

Not sticking to a plan and jumping around like a grasshopper! Thats probably been my main mistake......and possibly taking too much on at the same time!

I think the biggest mistake is gettign caught up in all the lastest email offers for business systems and products.

Everyday we are all sifting through a plethora of junk/scam/spam related e-mails. It so easy to be distracted in this business. If you're already successful in specifc niche-why reinvent the wheel in chasing after some other program or system?

Or the biggie-jumping from one program to the next. Everyone needs to stay focused with respect to your particualr niche and grow that business. I vowed the next home business that I would get invoived with-that I would focus on just my particular niche and never again chasing af other opportunities that many will not pan out and this stratgey has worked wonderfully.

My best learning experience is not to go cheap when you register your domain. I had a PR 3 domain and went to renew it, the website registrar took my money but didn't renew! No matter who I contacted couldn't help. I couldn't get it back for six months after it was to expire. Reputation ruined with that domain and ended with a PR 1. Its been almost 9 years and I still get steamed about it. LESSON LEARNED!

Oh plenty, I think the one that i've learned the most from is, stick to one thing and work it until it's been sucked dry, and move onto the next one.

Remember, no one fails at IM, they just quit before the money rolls in ;)

I like this thread as we can all learn from each othrs mistakes.

I made a big one, and it cost me a fwe thousand Dollars.

I created what I knew was a great product ( I still beleive that four years later) but I didn't spend the time to investigate if people were actually interested in it. I ended up building a great website, got a Google PR of 3 got loads of traffic, had a free eBook, opt-in, newsletter and learned a whole lot of work.

Eight months later I realised that people wanted the solution that I was giving them, but without the work and in a very, very quick time.

I wrote a comprehensive guide on how to quit smoking with videos, downloadble mp3s and a whole tonne of other things, only to find out that people want to stop smoking with a magic pill or patch and no matter how much I told them that, that's not going to happen and I could help them - they weren't interested!

All in all, a massive mistake and waste of time and money. But I did learn a whole lot about IM and it is helping me today with my affiliate marketing.

So not all mistakes are bad!

Here's to a fwe more, but hopefully they won't be as costly!

The big mistake I had being a marketer was not taking actions.I seek and seek and seek and didn't stop seelking for some information but the resources that I need is already in front me waiting to be put in action. Now I have change, when I search for something,I read it and if that something have potential I implement andf experiment until I have achieve what I am looking for.The key is ACTION,this is some marketers forget, some may read some articles that they know that it will benefit their site, they keep questioning the writer/author of that article or ebook and bragging that this so and so will not work.Question is,how do you it will not work if you will not try it first. This is the best enemy of marketers out there,I have done that myself and even question myself,is this guide works or not.Don't question it,try it,who knows.Stop looking for some more infos, you have already found it.If you are in trouble, just ask some members here and ask some help, there are genuine members in this forum that will guide and help you.Don't give up.

hmmmm .... it can be painful to concentrate on our mistakes
but I doubt that there are many out there who have sailed from
novice to expert with out making any ...

it took me months to recover from my first mistake of not researching before getting stuck in to an idea. The thing was I didn't know of this forum and had bought some cheap pdf guide and believed every word in it. I think it took me about 4 months to write a good pdf connected with the music business and build a squeeze page and no
sooner had I got it online than I discovered Holly Mann and this forum ... it didnt take much reading to realise I'd wasted my time, my experience, and my talents on an idea that was not going to sell ....

but I learnt something about me that I don't want to share here
and used it to transform myself into the person I always beleved I could be ....

and today I can say ....I've shaken hands with kevin potts ....

You pointed out some real examples of mistakes in IM.I think people want overnight success from their internet marketing campaign and soon get frustrated if they dont get it.

I've just getting started with my mistakes (IM).

I spent lots of money to a course and then:

    • started looking for other courses (more information, perspective)
    • didn't take action (because I wanted it to be perfect the first time)
    • tried to do too many things at once (instead of focusing at one thread)
That's stuff that I'm conscious of. I wonder what I'm not realizing yet.

I wish you lots of learning experiences!

Hi Neil, What is it you want to do? I mean do you know what you want to do ie,
    Affiliate marketing?
    Product creation?
Sell "real" things like on ebay?
Sell your services - like writing?

    Hi Geoff,

Thanks for taking the time to reply, what I would love to do is (Iknow it sounds daft) but teach people the basics, how to set up and use Aweber, how to set up a hosting account, how to set up a Wordpress blog just all the basic foundation stones that are essential.

I`d hope that some may then sign up for these services through my affilliate links.

As for now thats as far I want to go, they say 97% of peole fail, if i`ts because they don`t have these basic skills maybe there is a market for me to tap into?

I can only explain it like this, my brother is an astrophysicist although he now no`s more than his school teachers, he needed someone to teach him the basic`s in order for him to move onto the next level, I just want to help people with the basics also, hope that makes sense?

Thanks again Geoff, enjoy your day

    Neil

Neil you might have missed the boat on that has there are quite a few people on this forum who already do this.
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

With regards to the 97% of failures then it's down to a number of things like simply not having the time to fulfil the needs of IM, not having the resources to purchase product and ideas to show them how and lastly because most of them are lazy as they want everything done for them but in theory they have to do it for themselves and once people find out they have to work for it then they just give up.

Also if they are signed to more than one list then they will be constantly getting emails with the latest new ideas, product that takes your eye off the ball and you go start soemthing else when in reality they should be focused on one thing, make that work and then move onto the next.
