I have stirred up quite of bit of interest in the thread I started about success stories in terms of my income in such a "short" time of only four months. Actually, I'm a bit disappointed with my results so far. I had two major surgeries during that time and it takes a while to clear the cobwebs. If you guessed that there is more to it than just article marketing, you would be right. By the way, we'll call it a month here. $15,731 NET for October. I will triple that next month. How do I know that? Easy. I track everything. I know that if I do x, it will result in Y results. If I triple the input, I will get triple the out put. Simple marketing management.

The reality is that you and I don't think the same way. Don't believe it? Let's see.

1. If you made $5000 in the next 30 days, what would you do with it?

2. If you made $20,000 in the 30 days after that, what would you do with it?

3. When you found out I started in Article marketing, what did you think?

4. When you first started to explore IM, what did you think?

Before I tell you my views, you should know I went from 6 figures to 0 in a heartbeat. One month before I started in IM, I was in a homeless shelter because I lost everything, so don't even think I had an advantage on you.

But I did. I had dreamed up new business ideas, started them, built them and sold them for years. I have spent millions of dollars of my money (not some corporation's), on advertising. I understand the sales process and how to run a business. Both of which are completely foreign subjects to newbies.

Can you learn? Absolutely, most of it anyway. Certainly enough to make a very comfortable living.

What were my answers to the 4 questions?

1. Invest every penny in tools and advertising.

2. Same answer.

3. Article marketing. You mean I can write thinly disguised ad copy and put in front of thousands, for free! I gotta learn how to type faster!

4. Here's the real difference. My first search was for "make money online". I knew nothing about SEO but I figured the first one on the list was the best so I clicked. I see a page that tells me if I give this guy my name and email, he will give me all this free information on how to make money.

Whoa, hold the phone Mable! What's wrong with this picture? First, even a computer moron like me knows better than to give my info to some body I don't know. On top of that, this clown is offering to give me free info on how to make big bucks like him. When's the last time you heard that in the real world? My B.S. meter pegged out. Back button, click again. Same thing.
Clicked all the way through the first page, same thing.

Guess what I was thinking by now? I'm going to get bloody rich, that's what!!!

How? Same way I always have. Take the standard pitch everyone else gives and turn it upside down and put it in a form that actually recognizes what the person who is reading or watching it is thinking. Whatever the crowd is doing, you can bet I'm not doing it.

Example. 40 page sales letters. Do you like them? Do you read them? But the high paid copywriters say they have tested them and they work better than short sales letters. Do you know why? They don't know HOW to write short sales letters! They never bothered to think like the person reading them.

I could go on for days, but you have to do a few things if you want to make money.

1. Study on how to run a small business. Learn the difference between an expense and an investment. Learn about risk. Don't bother with reading about advertising. The ones that know how are not stupid enough to tell others their secrets. PPC excepted.

2. Read Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich. Keep reading it until you know the "secret".

3. Realize this is a business, not a hobby. Treat it that way. It is going to cost you some money, and massive amounts of time and work. Is it worth it? Seen a Corona commercial lately?

I know many will read this and think I'm nuts. Ignore it at your peril. The Internet is in it's early childhood, I'd say maybe 2nd grade. It's gonna be a wild ride folks.

After reading this, do you feel hopeless? Don't. There is so much money out there you can do ALMOST everything wrong and still make some money if you work at it. Simply learn as you go and don't believe anyone has all the answers, even me.

Hey Donn, I'm new to this forum and have just been browsing around. Seen a few of your posts and they are always bang on the money IMO.

Your point number one about learning the difference between expense and investment is spot on. One thing I consistently find is that newbies to IM don't realise it's a business and just have no concept of controlling their costs. I'm thinking here of those people who are constantly buying ebooks, software etc etc just because it's the latest thing that's going to make them money.

If I buy software, it's usually because it will let me automate something and give me a considerable time saving or allow me to scale something. If I buy an ebook, and I rarely do, it's because it will save me the time it would otherwise have taken me to research the contents myself.

You also made another post, which I can't find, about how you set up a website with a domain that was your name, no content, and ended up at the top of Google. There was so much basic advice contained in what seemed such an inocuous post that it made me chuckle to myself.

Might well have to check out that book you recommended.

Your mindset reminds me of a man I know, Keith Cunningham.

He was involved in the early days cable TV . . . made a ton of money. Then made another ton in real estate.

At one point though he lost $150 million when the development he was working on unexpectedly ran into a blind cavern newt that was on the protected species list. Then the dominoes fell and he was left millions in debt. Three years later he'd build his worth back up to over $10 million and been growing ever since.

The mindset? At one point I heard someone ask him a question that started out with "When you were poor . . . . " He stopped them with, "Hang on, hang on! I never said I was poor. I said I was broke. There is a huge difference! "

That statement has always stayed with. He was millions in debt but not poor . . . just broke. I think that's a good question for any of us to ask. Are you poor, or just broke?

Garry, you are absolutely right. Poor is a state of mind, broke is a temporary financial situation. There could not be more difference.

It is said that you can take a self made millionaire, take everything from him and drop him on the side of the road, and within a fairly short time, he will be rich again. I know this is true of myself, I have hit bottom before because a venture went south, only to bound back again. Oklahoma Billionaire T. Boone Pickens wrote a book titled "The first Billion is
the Hardest", I recommend it highly.

Great rewards always carry great risk. I was not kidding when I said that when I looked at the results for "make money online", I knew that I am going to get rich on the Internet. It has nothing to do with the skill of the people who are already involved, I trust myself that much to identify an opportunity and capitalize on it. The fact that EVERYONE is doing and practicing the EXACT same thing makes it like shooting fish in a barrel. There is never only one path to success, people who "think rich" don't follow the sheep, they lead the wolves.

I made a thread recently entitled "Rich or Broke". Most people thought it humerus, which it would be if the thought process did not determine your station in life. I believe every word of it and much more as well.

Am I nuts? Perhaps "crazy like a fox" would be closer.

One quick comment on Kim's remark about Google. I assume she is talking about SEO and she is correct. It can fluctuate wildly, mostly because of the "Google dance". You can be on page 1 now, and be on page 52 three hours from now.

SEO and article marketing are great to start with and can be extremely lucrative long term, if done correctly.

I use a combination of SEO, articles and paid promotions. The paid variety is much more predictable if you track and analyse everything, do constant split tests and refine. If you don't, you will have found the fastest way on the planet to max out your credit cards. It is not a game for everyone, but it can produce fantastic results extremely quickly.

You said that you take the 'standard pitch' & do the opposite... If they are successful at what they are doing then why do you want to do the opposite? As the saying goes 'Find someone who is successful at what you want to do & copy them'! I understand that we read things & find some of it a bit off putting like endless sales letters but they work, although personally I would rather do it my way (like you) but wonder if I should change 'the success formula'. If we are going to do it your way then how do we know what to copy & what we should ignore & do the opposite? Are you going by gut instincts as in if it puts you off then it is more then likely going to put off other people?

No Maria, I'm not suggesting that anyone try to do the same things I do. Every one else does things the same way because they work. You should follow a proven path in the beginning, especially. It takes talent, experience and... how shall I say this, a willingness to take risks to break away from the pack.

I started this thread because I have been asked how I could achieve so much success so quickly, so I have tried to explain why. There are many factors involved, not the least of which is experience in and advertising, business, and the ability to see opportunities that others don't.

If you try to blaze your own trail now, you will fail. You can follow the proven path and achieve very good results, that's just not my nature. Business is a game to me, money is how I keep score.

The simple answer to extreme success? Knowing, not believing that you will make it. That is why folks who have been up and been down, almost always come back. They KNOW they will. There is no doubt.

Right now, most of you have doubts that you will make the first dollar from IM much less a living. From the time I got my first article published, I waited seven days before I looked at my Clickbank account. I had four sales with a total of a little over $100 in commission. I didn't do the Google dance or anything, I knew there would be sales there.

I cannot express strongly enough how powerful your state of mind is. I would recommend developing a very strong self improvement regimen.

Ok understood... I have always been taught to always go with the trend & not try to buck the 'market'. In your case because you have a 'different' & very experienced background in business then you can go in a different direction & still succeed. I will follow the 'proven' method with a touch of Donn as I also do not like some of the techniques that are recommended...

One thing I would like to say that onedollar (by the way, welcome to our forum) reminded me of. In business, there is no such thing as free. You either spend your time or your money.

No, I not being cute, it is a fact.

Consider this:

1. I spend $10,000 on paid ads and generate $100,000 in sales in two weeks. (do-able)

2. I use SEO ("free") and generate $100,000 in sales in one year. Thousands of hours of hard work included.

Which is more expensive?

Hint: $10,000 x 26 = $260,000 in ad costs for a year. Sales = $2.6 MILLION

2.6 million minus 260k ad costs = $2.34 MILLION PROFIT in the same 12 months.

Look at the top of this page. You will see how a guy made 189,00 pounds in 7 months.

Which method do you think he used?

The difference in the above examples is $2.24 million per year.

This does not take into account that Google can kill your hard work in a heartbeat!

I told you, we think differently. You won't let yourself dream that high. That can be changed if you want to.
