    Default Whats your greatest flaw?

I've recently been doing a lot of soul searching, my current offline job looks like its coming to a end and surprisingly not because of the 'big bad recession'.

The funny thing is because I've worked in the same industry for near on 10 years I know how things work, which has put me in a interesting position. I know my boss is trying to move me out the door but can't fire me outright, but he can try and force me to quit or 'drop ball' due to being overworked.

Now all this has made me realise that although I enjoy my work I hate my job(at least at the moment) but I wont just up and quit, Why. Because I'm too Bloody proud to let them win. Even as I right this I'm think on how to fight this inevitable event.

I wont to leave, I should leave but my pride wont let me leave on their terms.

Anyway sorry to rant on my point was in realising all this I have come to terms with part of me that I hadn't even seen as a problem before. As the saying goes 'to much of a good thing'.

So my question to you is what do you see as your greatest flaw and how/why does it effect your life(or work)

    lexxmarzain.......

Seems as though many jobs have a ten year turning point........you get that "move on" feeling....sometimes aggravated by a "butt head" boss....

Many times the sun is brighter on the other side of the street...

Maybe your skills will suit another business...
Had a couple of jobs that I hated....my biggest fault was to wait too long to make a change.....both ended being moves up......

    Good luck and hang tough....

My greatest flaw is trying to perfect everything too much and it costs me a lot of extra time. I have a pretty high attention to detail so when I see something that doesn't look 100% I have to fix it, even though most other people probably wouldn't even notice. My wife says I do it all the time whether I'm working online or renovating my house etc...

My greatest flaw is time. I don't seem to have the time to do anything now-a-days. I have a full time job and a beautiful fiance and 2 wonderful kids, one of which is only 5 months old so after caring for them i find it increasingly difficult to sit down at the computer and leran the new tricks of the IM world

It could be that your boss feels threatened by you, which is why (s)he is trying to get you to leave. What I would do, in your circumstances, is Work normally at your job, document what you are doing, and what your boss is doing, also record where you feel feel that you are being asked to do more than your colleagues.

Don't drop the ball, just keep it moving at a normal pace so that the boss either realises his tactics aren't working or unfairly sacks you.

Then, things either go back to normal or you sue for unfair dismissal and take him/the firm to an industrial tribunal.

Alternatively if you feel that you have to quit the job then do that once you have enough evidence to support a claim for Constructive Dismissal and take your claim to an Industrial Tribunal.

I am quite OCD (Obsessive Compulsive), helps me as a self-driven home based worker with a large academy and lots of students...but all around me say I work too many hours and at far too fast a rate.

So....my appeal to every one in this community is to deliberately and purposefully create margin in your life....Margin for family and friends and community....

It is really frustrating when you have this hint of losing a job. But we have to be flexible and be tough during this rough times. We better start having a plan B.

My greatest flaw was being a fox, and trying way to many things when I first started online thank god for Mike Filsaime introducing me to Jim Collins book Good to Great who talks about the fox and hedgehog concept! Simple yet brillaint.

For me its lack of focus. I get too spread out over different projects. Between IM, the family, household projects, getting in shape, and a dozen other things. I just don't seem to get anything done. I'm working on it though.

If it is a flaw, I suppose my biggest is getting my head around the concept of asking people for money. For decades now, I have been doing stuff online for free - at massive cost to me. I even spent a small fortune helping to create the Internet 30-odd years ago and, then, providing free access to it through a dial-up bulletin board. We were young and idealistic in those days - we never dreamt what the Internet would turn into.
    Be lucky,

    Neil

Trying to do too much at the same time is mine. Now I am doing something about it by making myself finish each project before going onto the next.

Trying to do too much, no matter whether it is my home based business or taking on the housework. There just never seems to be enough time in the day to get it all done.

My flaw is doing too many things at once and not focusing on one thing at a time. Maybe because I am a woman and I am supposed to be able to multi task. I can do that but I really want to be focusing one one thing at a time and put my all into whatever I am doing.

My biggest flaw is that I have a conscience. In a few jobs I have had over the years I haven't been able to keep them because other people around me were happy to compromise themselves to keep the bosses happy.
I have never been a "yes man." That is a family trait and I think it is also a positive one in some regards too.

My other main flaw is that I do like to be accurate with things i do. Almost to the point of OCD sometimes.

I do wish you luck with your work. I have been an employer myself many times and it is tough on both sides of the fence.

Quick update on the OP. So I finally Bit the bullet and handed in my notcie after nearly six months of twisting and turning.
Some how I even managed to talk myself out of the required 2 months notice and got to leave within a week. (helps having a understanding physotheropist).
I probablly wouldn't have left if my wife hadn't got the job she was after and my recent online projects hadn't proven to be effective.
I suppose the idea is if you can identify your flaws or short comings its more than possible to turn them into avantages, that you can work with.

I think you are sensible in leaving in a short period. I have never heard of having to give 2 months notice. Here in Australia, you give notice based on how often you get paid.
I wish you well in taking your new direction in life.

lexxmarzain - I understand this completely. My last job was a shocker, my boss used to have such amazing mood swings and he would have ranting outburst. I was working from 7:30 in the morning till around 6 every night- 5 days a week and just keeping up what was required. After one of his ranting, I just handed in my notice because I loved the work but hated the workplace. It was a relief to get out of there.
