All of the methods involve some time and effort, some more than others. Many are free and some cost a little money

One thing that every webmaster desires is getting their website listed on Google or one of the other top search engines.

Unfortunately this isn't just a case of submitting your URL to the search engines and sitting back, waiting for a flood of visitors. Sure, if you do it this way, you will probably get listed in all the search engines, but what use is it to get listed on page 100,000 of the search results when most people don't look past the first or second page?

Pay Per Click Advertising - Before you get started it makes sense to test whether your website converts or not. This is one of the most important parts of this internet marketing guide. If your website does not convert (i.e. capture subscribers and make sales) then there is not any point spending lots of time and money promoting it. You can also test various keywords to see whether or not they convert or not.

Joker, these are all very powerful tips! I want to point out if people take the time to use time management to their advantage they can do these steps quite easily.

I focus about 20-30 minutes on each. I personally use SEO, building backlinks, blog comments, traffic exchange and most importantly using social media. I use social media very wisely which brings alot of traffic to my sites.

I agree guys. A good salutatory reminder.

The addition of social media is gaining massive momentum, but I would suggest you focus your efforts within social media to targeted traffic. For instance with Twitter building a large group of followers is not enough if all most of them do is follow the celeb trail.

You need people with an appetite to build their own online businesses and finding them as your followers is the key and so with so many other aspects of Social Media marketing.

My best advice is this:

#1 - Do not expect instant results. Despite what all of the "guru's" out there are saying, IM in most cases does not yield instant results - it takes time (and quite a bit of effort) to get set up.

Absolutely, i've lost count of the amount of people who get into IM looking to get some instant results but the thing is "It takes time"

Yeah this is very true. Results take time in this business unless you already have a massive list. Having said that I have made products that have taken off within a few weeks after getting good JV's and reviews etc.

But of course just promoting your site or product by standard SEO methods will take time. It's a shame but true. There are shortcuts but black hat techniques can be as disadvantageous if used incorrectly as they can do good.

Just add water only works for instant coffee, instant soup, and wet t-shirt contests. It's unfortunate that newbies are lead down the twisting and winding path when they "think" they are looking at their target with a straight shot.

Internet marketing is NOT a just add water pursuit. It takes time, energy, effort, stamina and a plan. Do not despair newbie, IT IS POSSIBLE!

Whenever I see someone talking about how much they made in 2 weeks, I have to wonder how long it took them to get to that 2 week period.

I also find it amusing the way almost all of them talk about how much you can make working 8 to 10 hours per week.
