Thread: does twitter work?

I know Perry Belcher uses Twitter, Facebook and Youtube to build his list. I was able to tune in to his 1 hour talk on Socail Media Networking and how to use it to build your list.

Here is my break down on twitter. It is the new im method of notifying your followers of what you are doing now. Just like email twitter was designed to have followers that are interested in what you have to contribute to the conversation. It has been abused with the I will follow you if you follow me deal. Yet how many of these followers will actually listen to what you have to say. I have over 200 followers yet post very little as followers really don't read your posts. They are too busy pushing their wares.

With tweet my blog and all of that no one listens to the conversation. If you have a free report for your niche by all means post a link and try to get them to opt in, but be aware of the I'll follow you if you follow me thing because they wont read your posts. Twitter is not designed as a follow through platform. If you have a few dedicated followers in your niche there is a good chance they will read your posts.

Just like email now days spam spam spam. Twitter is no different. Not to say it doesn't work if you are a known person in your niche or you develop a guru status.

My take is twitter is a lot of noise but great for research on what people are talking about now in your niche.

That would be my current take Daniel. Not that I am open to be persuaded otherwise. I just can't see any real evidence for monetizing and building great opt in traffic of the sort we are used to acquiring as Internet Marketers.

Surely a stupid question, not on twitter, but is it legal to put any url to websites on facebook?

I often place URL's on Facebook, so go ahead. Yes, it is legal if you are placing it on your wall or profile.

If you lead with value on twitter, facebook, youtube ect, you can easily make a full time income. People are intrigued when you just send out new tips on driving traffic to your website, inspirational videos ect, without sending them any business links. curiosity starts to get the better of then, which leads them to click on your default link, this usually takes them to a blog, what do they find there? More value. This make them even more curious as to what your about, till they eventually go to your squeeze page. By that time they are ready to buy anything from you, because you have positioned yourself as a leader,by all the value you have freely shared. That ladies and gentlemen is how some people are making a killing on the social networking sites.In a nutshell its the scenario of pushing the snow ball up the hill, its a very slow process in the beginning , but when it gets to the top of the hill, it will start to roll down taking everything in site with it.Remember in network marketing people buy from people, its not really about the opportunity.

I've been using Twitter as well and can say that it works. It's the only social media today that works effectively as compared to others.

But still it depends on how you properly use it.

Twitter works when used properly. If all you want to do is promote affiliate links, you won't make it far.

Twitter is one of the most used social media networks. When you can build a following by engaging conversations with others and become friends with other marketers, you will see results and make some partnerships along the way.

Well i must admit i only started using twitter as i heard it was good for traffic and a possible way to help build a customer base. I also found that i was getting a lot of people following me and when i also followed them all i seem to get is adds from them. Earlier today i saw an article by an IM who was saying that it is when you start adding just anyone that follows you, is when the spam starts, and i have to agree with him. His advice is to only follow people that you know or think you will be able to build a rapport with.
That way the people you follow are more likely to be a targeted customer base, makes sense to me as its better to have 20 good customers than 4000 non buying ones.

I use twitter on a limited basis. It is like any other social network, some use it to be social, others use it push their agenda, and some try the hard sell approach. I for one tend to ignore or drop those that hard sell, or worse yet tweet every minute of the day.

I agree.I tweet some and reply or send direct messages ;my blog sends an auto tweet for every new post or article I add.It brings me some traffic.

Keep growing with Twitter, and learn some of the automatic tools to use such as Friend Feed, TweetDeck, etc.
