Thread: does twitter work?

Personally never had any luck with twitter, everyone wants you to follow them and buy their product, but noone wants to look or even consider yours, to me it's a waste of time, but I am still a member of it.

Do not post crap and spam on twitter or else your followers will complain and stop following you. I have 10,000+ followers... any post I do does get serious attention. I have to be real carefull. One way to make $$$ is to post something like...

I am reading a really good book...check it out (amazon aff link)

Very good point.Too many Twitter users post strictly sales messages.
Personally,I get a lot of readers to my blog from my 5000+ followers by letting them know about new articles.

twitter now full of spammer

Twitter is a great tool if you use it properly and set up your system right. I have several accounts all with over 25,000 followers.I very rarely send followers to a landing page but ask them to look at my blog and leave a comment.I will try and explain how it works.
1/Set up an account and a backup account with twitter ensure that one of your five main keywords is your username.

2/In your profile enter your site URL

3/In your bio even though the link is not clickable enter the URL of your offer to opt in.

(this is not a affiliate link) open a free account and set up a welcome message that new followers get when they follow you.It should read something like this..

Hi and thanks for the follow,when you get a spare couple of minutes take a look at my new blog,please leave a comment and let me know what you think."place your link here"

You can write several of these messages as you can spin them so that not everyone gets the same welcome message.

Then go to Google alerts and set up 5 alerts based on your keywords get the feed because you wll need it for the next bit.

and enter the feeds from Google alerts this will give your Twitter accounts content so you do not have to spend hours playing on Twitter. BE VERY CAREFUL how often you set your alerts to be sent out Tweeps are very sensitive to be spammed by alerts.

Thats basically it, there are some free sites out there that will get you followers but these are not targetted so buying something like Tweetadder is really useful, you can get a free copy/trial which operates for just one account.

You will get lot of people looking at your blog and in return they want you to look at theirs, this is a great way of building relationships within your niche and blog commenting.

Do not hesitate to unfollow people who do not follow you back via TwitterKarma and spend no more than 30 minute a day replying to genuine DM,s

The biggest mistake people make with Twitter is that they forget it is a social site and interaction is the key, but don't let it take over your life.

Not to sure what to consider myself using twitter, if im a noob or not. But yes there are many people bombarding twitter with shortened URLs which are more than likely affiliates wanting you to buy their products but I had some success when it came more known to the public. Twitter is a great way to advertise your site, especially with the bit.ly you can easily track website stats and what links you provide get clicked on or not.

Just need to build friends and I mean thousands of em' to be effective.

I personly feel twitter is not ideal if you want to direct sell. But i am looking into the possibility of using it as a relationship building tool.

I have not made any sales on Twitter but it wont hurt to put it out there! Just dont go there to post ads or you won't get anywhere. And search for people with the same interests as you ( affiliate, internet marketing) and follow them. Some will follow you back.

I do self promote on twitter to my optin pages, videos, blog post and my other social media profiles (youtube channel)

you just got to do it in a casual way (no hard selling) and obviously mix in some interacting with other twitter users, retweet blog post, use famous quotes...

Has anybody tried Kenneth Yu's Twitter Salvation? As I understand he is supposed to be the go to guy on Twitter Marketing.

I haven't had any success with Twitter at all. It seems like most of the followers that I get are all Marketers as well and I get a dozen DMs a day. It's been really tough with Twitter, so I stopped using it.

I post links to my blog on facebook all the time. They keep track of your URL and ask you which post you want to publish number 3 or number 4 etc. brunkild

Defintely! Create some good free content and use this service to distribute "viraltweets.com", watch it roll in.

Recently one marketer sentn out an email saying he awas cancelling his twitter account with 25,000 followers on accountn of it taking too much time up for too little reward.

Another marketer sent an email out, saying that he gets a lot of visitors and in turn customers from Twitter and he only spends 10 minutes a day on it.

The essence is to tweet about new posts and interesting stuff, engage a little but not too much.

I find mixing some "quotes" in with the links to my posts works quite well. Just posting one "hard sell" after another just turns people off.

I personally am going to focus on building a massive list of people that I have a relationship rather than a try to get a huge Twitter following. There's just too much self promotion already going on that it's all noise. A list, on the other hand, is like your own personal room of people.
