Hi Guys, I am one of the ones whose account with CJ has recently been de-activated and to be honest, I am not really fussed by it all, I promote enough products through Clickbank and another one -

, if anyone is interested, to not have to worry about CJ, anyway, it is just something else to have to do!

Actually, Clickbank has a rather slow wind-down and disengage approach to closing dormant/dead accounts. Here are their steps:"But what I don't like with Commission Junction
if your account is dormant (no sales in 6 months)
they deactivate your account or charge you
some fees if you have a positive balance.
I believe Clickbank does this too." - annelisa
"Dormant Accounts
Accounts with a positive balance but no earnings for an extended period of time are considered dormant. Dormant accounts are subject to a charge of $1 per pay period after 90 days of no earnings, $5 per pay period after 180 days of no earnings, and $15 per pay period after 365 days of no earnings."
So they don't just arbitrarily close your account. After 90 days of no sales they start charging you a fee for keeping your (inactive) account open.
You can make your account active by selling something (anythng). You can also do this by buying something for yourself via Clickbank.
[I have a couple of CB accounts. One is semi-active. I keep it open by having chosen to pay for a monthly membership, bought via CB, through that account. So each month my PayPal account gets charged for the membership and my semi-active account gets another sales commission. Voila! Account stays active!

You can set your payment threshold at $10, so that at the end of your next 2-week pay period if you have more than $10 in accumulated commissions they will either send you a check or make a direct deposit into your bank account for all of your accumulated balance. If you then lose a -0- balance inactive account, no problem. You can sign up for another, at no cost, at any time.
CB is pretty clear about things. You can see their entire accounting policy at: clickbank.com/accounting.html

commision Junction is cool, while will your account be inactive for 6months. I can't imagine a chip shop not selling chips for 6months even if it was on the motorway with no residential houses

I've been making 5-figures a month affiliate marketing since 2001... and I HATE Commission Junction.
- If you don't make a certain amount of money within a certain timeframe, they zero out your account instead of paying you what you've earned.
- If your account is inactive for a period of time, they zero out your account instead of paying you what you've earned.
- They have had several periods of time when their tracking is "broke" (they'd never admit it)... where NONE of your affiliate sales are credited to your account (me and several other old-timers have tested this by buying items from our own stores using our affiliate links... and not one of the items was credited to our accounts).
Bottom line...
CJ finds every way they can to keep the money for themselves rather than paying you what you have earned.
While they have a great variety of products and stores to choose from, I no longer promote anything that uses CJ for their affiliate program. Not surprisingly, once I stopped marketing via CJ, my monthly earnings jumped without any increase in traffic... just because I was actually getting PAID for the sales I generated.
You must check if the commission or affiliate program that you choose has any products in your niche.
I tried several different once when I started, but there were a few from which I could sell products based on my niche.

I don't know about anyone else but I find CJ market place to be incredibly hard to naviaget around, so much so that I don;t use them that much
A perfect affiliate network doesn't exist. Each one has its pros and cons. So we have to work with what is out there and is reasonably ok. I have many active accounts at the different big affiliate networks and imho CJ is one of the better ones.
And yes when I started out as affiliate marketer my CJ account was also deactivated. A second new account was deactivated as well. Two times my fault as I did nothing with my accounts. When I opened an account for the third time and I finally started to actively promote CJ merchants and started to make sales and commissions I didn't experience any account problems again.
I think too many affiliates are opening an account and then do nothing with it. Do we have to blame CJ that they deactivate accounts with no activity just taking away resources? Or do we have to blame ourselves for not taking any action?

I use CJ and have no complaints. Depending upon your niche, they have great offers. I've never noticed anything flaky about their tracking (at least not any worse than any other affiliate program). My personal 3 month EPC at CJ is right now at $27.85. That doesn't seem too bad to me.
I'm sure it's frustrating to have your account deactivated, but then again, just one sale in six months is hardly very much to ask.
For the record, I also use Link Share, Share a Sale, Amazon, and Clickbank.
I was deactivated at CJ.
All they asked me to do was log in and click an Activate link.
Job Done.
I have joined CJ but have not really used them that much as I am busy with other programs. They are defiantly good and have a huge list of advertisers.
I don't really like the interface that they have. Sometimes the advertisers comes with supplied links and these aren't really effective.
I find Amazon and eBay to be good paying affiliates for niche sites but they require volume to make a decent amount from them. If you are actively blogging and put an affiliate RSS or plugin for those you can generate a monthly commission check. I have never had a great deal of success with CJ. Usually the products I want to sell are by vendors who hardly ever look at the people requesting to sell their products and the application sits there pending for months on end.
Clickbank is a decent place if you choose the right product and can drive traffic.
No matter which affiliate you choose, the key to success is definitely traffic. Learn to drive traffic to your site and you will make money no matter what you pick to sell.

The best affiliates schemes be they via networks, payment engines such as ClickBank or just private schemes are well set up and often automated in terms of accepting affiliates. Certainly the private opportunities are often the most lucrative.
Do watch out for this forum launching just such a scheme in the not too distant future as part of the new JV Engine we have built and are currently testing within the Cambridge Business Academy.

Once you start getting traffic they work well. I started with CJ four years ago. I have been making sales all along. I have done really well with CJ and they are my main source of income. I have had very little success with Clickbank.

Well that's an interesting and counter-balanced view. Thanks for the info.

CJ is great for physical products and pays well. Buy a product via your link to keep your acct active. In the end you pay the discounted price, however if you are marketing correctly, you won't need to do that, just get out there an make some sales!
It you have funds in your Clickbank account and are dormant, they will take 1 dollar out per pay period. So they give you some time.

I have to say that ClickBank is phenomenal. Yep its pricey as some would say, but pricey is a relative concept at best.
Especially if you create your own product and can integrate the ClickBank API into your site, even a membership based site, and then deliver the correct Pitch page and Thankyou page (there are strict requirements for each of these pages by ClickBank) you are pretty much sure to make money.
