CJ and Clickbank are both good parties to promote your products. Of course they don't want their sites flooded with useless stuff, even you will also do the same if you were on their shoes, that's the reason why they have to deactivate it. One thing to avoid this is to keep your product link active through e-mail marketing, forum posting, article marketing and the likes. Aside from not getting your product deactivated you also gain more exposure to your product.

Onlinemate I could not agree more.

Both market places are really best optimized through marketing your own, unique products and ClickBank in particular being a fully fledged payment engine, enables you through their API to use the equivalent of PayPal's PDT and IPN which is fantastic for Membership based sites.

You do have to scrupulously make sure you follow their instructions for the Pitch Page and Thank You page or you'll find it tricky to do business, especially with ClickBank.

I run quite a few affiliate websites and I've got accounts with CJ, Clickbank and every other known affiliate network and some that aren't known(! Yes, really!).

All have plus points and problems. My main problem with CJ is that the stuff I want to sell isn't on their vendor list or their products are so uncompetitive they simply don't sell - so while I keep the account in case I ever need it, I simply don't sell any of their products. Every six months they tell me that I'm deactivated but they also tell me how to reopen my account. It's tedious but ...

If you've got a decent site then there are lots of affiliate networks who'd love to have you on board. If you want to find out who - goto

It's one of the most garish awful websites you'll ever see - but it's got links to almost everything saleable on the web and she kindly tells you which affiliate network promotes it.

But - wear dark glasses when you view it

Putting links in my signature here would be a waste of time. No search engine will ever see them - so I won't get any backlink juice from them. Besides which - I've got about 100 sites....

    Hi Ally,

It's one of the good choices, if you have a
    good niche.

But what I don't like with Commission Junction
if your account is dormant (no sales in 6 months)
they deactivate your account or charge you
some fees if you have a positive balance.

I believe Clickbank does this too. You can refer it here:
    clickbank.com/accounting.html#A15

Linkshare, Kolimbo, ShareASale - my dormant accounts
    with them are still active.

thanks for that! I had better get over and put up some links. I did wonder how long I could leave things. laziness is just so tedious... don't you agree

that must be the seriously worse site in the world! Thanks for that. could use the info. I got rejected from Ebay so still licking that wound. perhaps it is the catch 22. they want you to have a site with things for sale but won't approve your site if it has any affiliate links with things for sale!haha. life goes on...funny how some people seem to make money through amazon while others jsut with ebay... beats me!

eBay is trying to change its business model. In doing so they're alienating many of their early users - the very people who made them successful. I stopped promoting them a long time ago.

I've got a number of bookshops out here - all powered by Amazon. They don't make much money but... if a domain costs me $3 a year and I can attach it to my current ISP for no cost then if (as most do) it brings me in about £1 a day then I'm making £350+ p.a. for no effort other than setting up a website and telling Google it's there. Ten of those means £3,5 K and 100 would mean £35,000.

I do nothing other than set up the site - Amazon updates the content through a dedicated "astore". I don't concentrate on those - but I'll launch one if I'm bored.

The same applies to dedicated sites. For example, I could launch a 'cook from frozen' website. I'd sell cookery books, kitchen equipment, fridges and cookers, cutlery, china and maybe even food. I'd probably have a dozen or so companies' products being sold and I collect a commission on each sale. You can churn these out like a production line. Cost to you is minimal and you'll get paid via the networks whenever anyone clicks through to buy a product. It'll probably take a couple of days to get content and buy a few images to create the site. I'd expect such a site to pay me around £10-£15 a day. Promotion? Good on-site SEO design and the occasional mention on a cookery forum.

That's the main reason for going with ALL the networks. See what they sell and then cherry pick the good products. Then create a site to sell them. It works.

Go for very, very specific niches. Whack in some good content with good SEO keywords. Name your site appropriately. For example, if you were selling books on the Winter Olympics try "winterolympicsbooks.co.uk" (in the UK) .com for the US. Put a link through to 'our bookstore' - which is an Amazon astore. Because you can customize, you could have sections like 'Bobsleigh", "Skiing", "Curling", etc.

Because it's VERY specific it'll whip up to the top of most SEs in a few days for "Winter Olympics Books".

It won't make you rich. It will bring in a few quid for very little effort. And - this is important - if you make a few quid doing this you can then expand your efforts and make more.... and more.... and more....

    Get the idea?

I have just realised reading this thread that might CJ account might have been de-activated.... and sure enough, it was.
But when I tried to login, it provided a simple form to re-activate my account and
    My account is immediately activated!
My be CJ have changed their rules, but they say in the form that I have to generate
    sell in next 6 months.
I have never sold anything in CJ.
I agree with others that CB is much friendlier!

    Cheers!

Hey Sarah, like Dav said you can have more than one account with Clickbank. Some people have an account for each website they have or for each affiliate program.

I would not recommend CJ for someone just starting out because it would be very discouraging for a newbie to have your account deactivated because you have not made any money in 6 months. Not everyone is going to make a sale in 6 months.

Hey annaverawilliams, I commend you for being able to make money with Amazon because I sure can't make any real money with them and is the affiliate commission always so little?

I would think a company that large would pay their affiliates more than they do. Maybe I am doing something wrong or not doing something right.

I remember in one month I sold $440.00 worth of products and all I made was $22.97. That hurt! because my first sale was for a product that cost $172.79 and I made $6.91. That's pitiful!

Is it always like that or does it depend on how long you've been an affiliate?

Their commission is around 5% but (depending on the programme you are on) can be capped at £7 per item - which is a bit heavy if you sell something that costs more than about £150 and there are many such things on their store.

Amazon isn't a great way to make money in a big way. But it can provide a trickle of income - and lots of trickles make a stream. I wouldn't advise anyone to think they'll make a living out of them - but they can provide a small supplement. The point is that Amazon is an easy way to start and get a bit of confidence. Even a first 50p commission shows you that you CAN make money in Internet Marketing.

For those of us who've been doing it for a long time we often forget that people new to the whole thing have to learn. And I'm sure we can all remember the very first commission we made. It's a major milestone on the route to success.

Amazon have a choice of 2 programmes. I forget the details but they are on their affiliate site. This is for the UK though - some things are, I believe, different in the US.

CJ has many excellent products, and as with all affiliate programs, they are there to make money, after all. I think they are probably looking for the bigger fish to be affiliates. Thanks, Annelisa, for posting their rules. Since most companies do not allow you to make a purchase yourself, I didn't even think about it...and I'm probably approaching that 6-month mark!

I wonder if it's dependent on your niche? My sales have come slowly but consistently through Clickbank, but I've never sold anything through Amazon so far.

Mines just the opposite, more Amazon sales.

I believe CJ is a great source of affiliate products. ClickBank too. Yes it becomes a problem if your program is dormant, however, I have a solution for this. In line with "Honest Affiliates", I only promote programs that I use myself. While promoting programs I use, I buy it with my own link give it a whirl. This saves my account. If it's a flop, nobody but me loses on the return fees. If it's great, then I promote it full speed. Good luck!
