Thread: Need Traffic Generation Knowledge

What is the best way to generate traffic to my website? It's been getting hits but not that many, does anyone know what the best strategy to do?

Well that's an open question, hard to answer specifically. In general terms you can try:

- Article writing for ezinearticles.com and other article directories
- Submitting your site to web site directories (both free and paid)
- Building up backlinks with link exchanging
- Posting on forums such as this with a link to your site
- Comment on blogs
- Make your own blog for hitting long-tail keywords
- Flat rate advertising on web sites
- Pay per click advertising
- PPM advertising (pay per thousand/million views)
- Do a press release and publish at businesswire.com
- Sign up for twitter, build up your followers and tweet to people
- Start a group on facebook
- Create a squidoo lens
- Myspace group
- Create stumbleupon page
- Try and get your link into wikipedia (notoriously difficult - try and become a respected editor before putting any of your links in!)
- Add bookmarking tools to your web site
- Add digg bar to your web site
- Add posts to Craigslist.com
- Create a viral email campaign
- Upload a popular youtube video with a backlink to your site...

The list goes on...Of course I've only covered the online methods of driving traffic to your site - the offline methods are sometimes just as effective and in some cases cheaper!

I mean to be honest, it all depends on what your model is. Are trying to get organic listings in Google? If so, you'll need to make sure your pages contain the long tail "phrases that pay" and do SEO for those terms.

If you're advertising for traffic then figure out the best platform to use. ie. Facebook great for downloading games etc, google Search good for getting customers that are in a buyers mindset.

To be honest, I could go on for hours, why don't you tell me a bit about your plan and then I'll be able to offer more specific help..

Well paj_mccarthy has give you pretty good list. Just find 3-5 methods and concentrate on it. Most of the time traffic is not actually our problem but it is the things we want to promote. So make sure do some research whether it is something people look for and has high value. Not just the one who regret it once buy.

Thanks so much for the information that you have given. I created a website with a lot of information that is useful to my readers and was hoping to drive income using Adsense and other Affiliate links to my website.

I have a lot of useful information on the site, but if there are no traffic it's like a waste.

I am doing link exchange, SEO and have done the article technique too.

Any suggestion of which of the methods really drives a lot of traffic? So that I can concentrate on it?

My third item on the list "building up backlinking with link exchanging"...Since I posted this it seems that new logic in Google's ranking system has been implemented (last Monday) and early signs are that reciprocal link building and interlinking is being clamped down on. Some webmasters have reported massive drops in rankings over the last couple of weeks and reciprocal link building is the common denominator.

Don't forget content. Create content that people are interested in and you will get backlinks, bookmarks, subscribers and fans which equals traffic.

Then leverage that content in multiple formats and distribution channels.

My biggest mistake was wasting my time doing the boring time consuming work myself....

You want a good traffic tip find something you can afford set it up and forget about it!
