Thread: AD SWAP On A Grand Scale To Grow A MASSIVE List FAST, Need Feedback And Opinions

Hey Everyone,

I would like some feedback and comments around something I am going to be putting together to help people grow their lists quickly.

I am going to be putting up an ADSWAP give away site. Now for those of you who do know know what an adswap is (I really dont know why it isn't called adswop) but it is basically where person A mails their email list for an offer of Person B and Person B mails their list Persons A's offer.

Both people gain exposure to their product, service etc and if they have a squeeze page (page that captures names and email addresses) in place they grow their own contact list.

HERE IS WHAT I AM PLANNING TO DO

I am looking for some people to participate in a coordinated ADSWAP give away, where I put up a page giving away one of my top products for FREE and those people participating offer one of their products for FREE.

Now to get the products from the people who participate in the ADSWAP the person who visits my FREE GIVE AWAY SITE will need to enter their name and email address on a page each person involved will set up.

So here is how it would work, I will set up a page like simeontuitt.com/freegiveaway

I will coordinate a date for those who are participating and giving a FREE product to mail their mailing lists.

On the date arranged everyone mails there list a coupon code unique to them and tells them of the FREE GIVE AWAY at simeontuitt.com/freegiveaway when they use the coupon.

Visitors visit the page read the site, view the videos explaining how they can get the gifts WORTH ££££S for FREE, they just need to enter their coupon code given to them by the person who mailed them.

They fill in their full name, address etc as if paying for the item, enter their coupon code and receive a 100% discount, so they get the products mentioned on the page for FREE.

The visitor is then transferred to a Thank you page where there is a link to each persons product who participated in the give away, they can have a squeeze page setup so that each person who wants to claim their product has to enter their name and email address to receive the product.

The give away visitor also gets emailed the page link to claim their FREE products.

So imagine the following people all mailing their lists:

Adeel 50,000+
Simon 8,000+
Lee 3000+
IM Forum 15,000+
Robert 50,000+

That would be a total of 126,000 people being directed to the give away site and being exposed to each of the above adswap contributors.

All the above are people I know so I will be contacting them to see if they are interested in giving one of their products away for FREE and mailing their list on a set date. If you have a list of 3000 or more drop me a message if you would be interested in this kind of adswap.

DO NOT WORRY IF YOUR LIST IS SMALL, I WILL DO THE SAME FOR SMALLER LISTS

So even if you like the idea above but only have a list of a few hundred - 1000, if you are interested in doing this let me know of your interest and list size and I can put something together. Just let me know what size list you have and how soon you could mail your list.

You are probably wondering why I will be giving people a coupon for a 100% discount, well the reason is by having the total value of the product priced on screen it increases the sense of urgency so people use their coupon to get it all FREE, it also makes sure people don't just enter in a false name and email address on the give away site to get to the thank you page and it helps to track which adswap contributors refer who.

Hmm, well I'm a little confused by the methodology in which you plan on executing it Simon. Each year I co-host the biggest New Year Giveaway event of them all, along with Guido Nussbaum.

How will this benefit people more than simply using a regular giveaway script for the event? Or if it is more closed doors such as the giveaways where all contributors have to enter in a product completely unique to them, and also require a list of let's say 5,000 to enter. There doesn't end up being as many contributors, but, the results for all the people involved generally make out far better than in regular giveaways. The reason is, that unique products of value are always the criteria. Where as regular giveaway events, anybody can enter pretty much anything...PLR's, Rebranded reports etc.

The whole concept of needing a coupon code has me confused. It seems like adding more steps to an otherwise relatively simple process, which would make it tougher for people to get the actual downloads.

Perhaps, I'm just not quite understanding the process behind it well enough. Can you explain how this would work out better for members than regular giveaway events?

Folks....I love people thinking creatively and being excited and vulnerable enough to expose their ideas to those of us in this community especially the admins and owners.

Don't over complicate AdSwaps....

1. You need a list big or small

2. Find people with a similar sized list or bigger who will talk to you and who's list is relevant.

3. You send an email recommendation pointing your list to your colleauge's site.

4. He does the same for you, with your site.

5. People from both lists will go to each site and if they like what they see, they'll opt in and then the journey of building that relationship begins.

End of......

It works, works great and as you're list grows, you will have people knocking on your door, queuing up....for instance Paul and I do a list swap every week of the year and pull new opt ins from it and I am sure Davin and Holly follow a similar approach.

Yes, Kevin always does provide some very helpful posts. One thing he is definitely right on as well, is that eventually you will have people knocking on your door, and wanting to swap with you.

Once you find some real good swap partners, they will often start referring you to others...then those people will generally contact you. It doesn't take that much once you get the whole ball rolling.

Kevin and Paul are business partners.Holly and Davin are business partners.Swapping lists between partners is acceptable.
However ,you cannot lend your list to an adswap partner the way you intend or should I say imply.That is an invasion of privacy when people sign up with you,but do not agree to receive 3rd party offers.
I realize that you are asking people to offer your product to their list directly and vice-versa.I'm just adding a little clarity to a statement at the start of the thread.

For adswaps,as Davin pointed out,you don't need to use coupons,but I get your point.Normally your page leads to a sales page where the price is ***$,but with adswap partner customers the price is 0$ if they use the coupon.

Caveat for coupon downloads:
if using PayPal to process a product with a 100% discount ,contact PayPal to ask if there are processing fees;or the coupon code alters the submit button to send the customer directly to a download page bypassing PayPal.

I am interested in getting in if there is room for another ad swap person!

Swapping ads can be quite fruitful if you don't overdo it and alienate your own list with a barrage of offers from your adswap partners.In other words,choose your partners wisely, and each campaign even more carefully.If you want to get involved with adswaps both partners need to have something to offer the other beneficial to both.
And to further clarify my comment above; adswaps is not list trading.You send offers to your own list from your partner and he or she sends your offers to his or her own list.
Contact potential partners as Kevin suggests and The Joker concurs with.

Interestingly for Paul and I, we have the most success by getting somebody (a partner) to simply send a little email or recommendation to their list, suggesting they check out our CambridgeBusinessAcademy. No sales, no offers. Those people check us out, discover there is no sales or offers, around 40% + sign up and then we start our own relationship building exercise.

Works for us much more successfully than taking them straight to a sales page from a warm introduction from their own list owner.

That's how I joined the forum. I was introduced by Tim Lowewhose list i have been on for some time.

I have to admit that doing add swaps with people does in some cases start to lead to future friendships. Sometime you get more out of the swap than just new sign ups. Going back to the original article though when I read it, it does seem as if it is similar to JV give aways.

The one question I would like to ask is, if someone with no list but has a squeeze page set up and has an aweber account, if they contributed several givts to a JV give away would they get many sign ups or not?

Would love you input on that because I am working on seeing what is the most productive way to build a small list fast starting with zero numbers.

If the free giveaway you are offering is of interest or not seen before by many then you can build a list quite effectively in a JV Giveaway event.

I absolutely agree with Kevin on this...although I haven't posted yet in the brand new forum, I was a semi regular poster previously (just a disclaimer)...

Kevin you are correct and the methods you outline are the exact methods that I have used in the past year or so to grow my list from maybe 100 to approaching 5,000...granted I don't do an email swap each and everyday, but I do swap a few times a week as well as enter giveaway events.

The 'trick' to growing your list is to have something of quality that you can provide for them. There are hundreds, if not thousands of ebooks and reports out there that have giveaway rights attached to them. My suggestion is to find one with plr rights, rework the content in a way that it is in your voice, retitle it, get new graphics made and then offer it as an 'ethical bribe' to your web visitors.

Once you have people signing up to get your report, drip good content to your readers on a regular basis through your autoresponder.

BE consistent.

You can't send the confirmation email for them to get their download and then NOT send them anything else! You absolutely must grow your relationship with the.

Believe it or not, I subscribe to the lists of each person that I swap with. You wouldn't believe the number of 'marketers' out there that only send promo emails to their list. There is no content, no building a relationship, no 'letting them get to know you'...

That's totally wrong in this business.

Once you have subscribers, keep them informed. Let them in on your personal life a little bit. Tell them what you are doing and what they should expect from you. Direct them to your blog - you have a blog, right?? You should have....

Ok...I think that's enough right now...you get the idea.

Whilst I agree that AdSwaps are great way of building a list, there seems to be a frenzy among online marketers flogging this method to death.Every man and his dog are promoting AdSwaps and some are damaging their list in the process. I have recently took the decision to unsubscribe fron several lists as the list owners were blasting me daily with the usual " a good friend of mine has just" and "I have secured for you"blah, blah, blah. I subscribe to a list because I am interested in that person or their products. Yes by all means use the methos but remember why people joined your list in the first place.

Sounds like a normal JV giveaway to me, except with the added use of a 100% discount coupon. If the coupon is meant to prevent a visitor using a fake email address to get the gifts, then a double opt in would also achieve the same result.

Markfb is right. There is a problem we call List Fatigue in the industry and it simply means you must adswap with quality, stratgegically, look at variants such as JV Thank you pages, which I have talked about in my video blogs.

Use them by all means but make sure they are part of the Organic SEO, PPC and myriad of other traffic generating strategies.
