    Question Press Release Traffic?

I am going to start using press releases more often... but for anyone who is currently using them, where is your traffic coming from?

Apart of news sites like Google News, are you finding that most of the traffic from press releases are coming directly from the PR site itself, or is it the added SEO benefit that you see more traffic from?

What I mean is, some good press release sites will give your site good SEO backlinks and thus your site might rank higher. Or are people coming to your site from the PR site itself?

    Thanks,
    Joel
Have you taken massive action today?

I am also interested in starting to do Press Releases. I have done a few in the past with little success.

I have run a few campaigns and they doubled the website traffic within 3 days per Alexa ranking. I found that it was so hard to find all the places where you can list for free that spent over 2 months researching and created a database with over 350 websites and many have free submissions. I have tried to list the prices, etc. so people can easily use the list. All the lists I found were bad in some way, either non-working sites included or sites selling other things such as software, etc. so took time for this. This is free to use which is in cooperation with the website goal of providing everything we can to webmasters for free. We are not affiliates with anyone on this list.

I actually got good results with free-press-release.com, but only with the paid upgrade option.

I am going to try this today. I will let you know how well it works.
I have some sites with plenty of backlinks, but they just won't rank in the SERP's for any keywords, or some are way down like 400-500 and on and off. Google dance for sure, but these sites are around 3 months old now.

I have had tremendous success with using Press Releases but they are just that a release about a product, new website or new service you are offering. I used long tail keywords which ranks very high on google, yahoo and bing but they don't stay there forever. They are great for quick publicity and as well great for backlinks too.

I find that backlinks appear to be a little overrated. As I said above, I have some pretty long tail keywords and original content, and I still am having problems showing up in the SERPS. These have backlinks that were added slowly and from some very high alexa sites and .edu (I teach at a university and have my own site with a .edu).

    Well, time for more experimentation!

I understand what you are saying completely Tresero. I have three sites I have been trying to get ranked for my industries specific keywords and since these are blogs or just websites it takes a while to slowly rise over time as you know.

What I have found, as you may already know, is to get an article ranked from Ezine etc as well the youtube videos I have placed out there rank very very high after I backlink to those. All of them point to my blog not just for traffic generation but to pass along link juice. Sort of like building a pyramid. Noramlly blogs take a long time to rank high as well.

I have also found using keywords that have less than 50000 competition rank quite easily as well.

But honestly after its all said and done does anyone really know what googles algorythym is for sure? Its all testing and more testing. Some work and some do not.

Thank YOU, Snowflys for the info you provided.

Like everyone else, I've done quite a few press releases, experimented with
    the keywords after doing research.
I have found that most of the traffic directly attributed to the press releases have come
within hours of submission and lasted for about 5 days.
Although I still get some visits from those original submissions, the traffic
was viable up to the 5 day mark.

Is that typical with anyone else here?

I thank everyone for their comments here in this thread.
All of you are wonderful people!

    Thanks again!

    Hey Dr. Dax,

Your results are very typical from what I have experienced. I have even gone so far as to backlink a few of the good PR's I have done on new services using Su.PR, Digg and a few other social media sites which helps drive traffic as well.

We have done quite a few press releases. Due to a penny pocketbook to start out with, we wanted free ones which ARE available. We later used some websites that charge too but not necessarily are they better and in fact, one of them we received NOTHING from so, that being the case, our website is created to help others on the internet FOR FREE. We spent over 2 months steadily researching and compiling a list of press release submission websites which you can view here:
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

We have tried to place notes of information we have discovered about each site to help everyone. The one thing most people don't really know is that each company has it's own places where it places your press release so each one is fairly different, i.e.; one might just put it on their website, one might announce it through emails where they have users subscribing to newsletters, one might use news RSS feeds it has access to, one places it on 12 newspapers, one might use the major places such as google news, etc. So, we recommend submitting to as many possible when you promote a press release to get the biggest benefit. It is critical you read the instructions for each press release submission as there are a few that only take html, or some that will not allow anchor tags within the press release, or some that require certain business info within it, etc. We also recommend setting aside about 3 days of concentrated work to submit to as many possible so your news stays fresh. Make sure you change your date on the top each day you submit so it is accurate. We ran into one company who doesn't even approve your press release for a month which is not really worthy of your work but if your news is such where it doesn't matter, then the release will still be a good one. Most press releases are approved quite fast, sometimes right away, sometimes a few hours but most seem to be within the 3 day period. The hard part is writing a press release as you cannot SELL or PROMOTE yourself or your product or company within it. IT MUST BE NEWS. To help this a bit, we do have an instruction page for you and we believe all the information should be free that you find there. If you submit to an expensive website such as PRWeb, don't rule out the little companies as they place your press release, most of the time, in different places. Your goal is to saturate the marketplace with your news just as much as possible. After submissions are completed IF you know where any of your press releases are listed, you can then bookmark one or more and we use OnlyWire.com as they are only $2.99 a month for their service for 30 or so bookmarks. This will add to the viewers and visitors to your press releases and should cause more visitors to your websites. Hopefully this information can help everyone be more successful and benefit the most from the hard work of writing a good press release. You can always let us know if we can help in any way too as we want others to benefit from our hard work we did, compiling this list. We are not affiliates with any website listed on this list. Thank you for reading this.

I got great results from free-press-release but only on the paid option!

PRs are great and a great way to raise your PR rank within the search engines.

Did they have more than one paid option and if yes, which one did you choose? I think this is great because I can make a note to the list as we are just beginning to market this list now and it is good to have the ones marked that work well so other webmasters can use them too. If you know of any more, please let us know. I really appreciate the help. We are just now getting ready to do one ourselves so thank you very much!! Oh, did it activate right away (the press release) and how did it affect your site (ranking and/or traffic)? I like to be accurate in our reporting on the list if at all possible.

Before, it was really easy to get top 3 for your keyword to appear on the universal google results under google news. You use sites like PressMap.de and submit an article yourself, but Google has now cracked down on this.

Did you guys use this technique before?

Haven't heard of this one and suppose it no longer works? Amazing how once you hear about something, shortly it no longer works or by the time you hear, it no longer works. Heard of another system but it is sort of black hat so probably not proper for content here. Found that it sort of works fairly well. Thanks for the info

I have never used it. I set up two different press releases first. One with HTML and one without. Then I submit to each press release site one at a time.

Are you successful impacting your site with your posting? Do you ping them when done and bookmark them? I have found that helps drive a bit more traffic. Which ones are you using?

I've heard that you can use "submit" software for press releases -- where you just send it out once and the software submits it to hundreds of sites.

Does anyone know about these or is this just a pipe dream?

    Thanks,
    Judi
