Thread: So...What Really Is Alexa?

Hi,
I'm only relatively new to this game & I'm very confused about Alexa!

I have a few sites, not promoting them yet, BUT...
They climb up the Alexa rankings at night!
Every night...

What's the deal with Alexa?

I have no traffic that I know of at the moment & am still building my sites & yet one of my sites has jumped 100,000 "places" in a week???

It's 12,000 (about) in Australia, my home country & 600,000 & a bit out of over 5 BILLION sites out there in the world!

This tells me something...The rest of what I've over taken must be really B.A.D!

Surely there must be a criteria...I checked yesterday & it said Traffic visits.

So that means that only about 600,000 sites in the WHOLE world are functional, as far as visits & traffic getting goes?

I'm really gob smacked!
This must mean that most websites are really only static brochures in cyber space, fueling their owners whatever?

I must be wrong...

Can someone put me straight on this please?

How are the sites ranked with the Alexa tool...do you know?

Alexa like PR = crap and are just numbers don't waste time with them ...

So what you are saying is;
Alexa is a tool that no one takes any notice of.
It only measures sites which have the tool bar on it.

If that is so...why do people mention it?

Thanks anyway...I have always wondered about it's importance.
