Default Will Be Hosting A Giveaway With A Few Friends

A few friends and I are going to put on a giveaway for newbies. Any suggestions you have for us would be great. It's the first time we've hosted one and we want to make it a good one for all newcomers to giveaways to experience. We know what we would have liked, but what are your suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Marilyn

    Hi

i did my first Giveaway a few years back, i used the jvfiresaleautomater, it was the first script of its kind at the time, i actually got it in a giveaway, i setup the script, i promoted like mad, i took my domain
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
to 30 thousand on alexa, brought in over 13 thousand subscribers, made over $1000 with NO OTO just on giving freebies away, paypal shut me down for making money fast they locked my account for 180 days, so i logged in and refunded what i could to everyone, they still owe me over $200 but wont all me access to that account anymore, my hosts server crashed and when his tech people moved the site, to another host, they lost everything, when i cancelled with them and moved to another host, they still charged me for months, or they kept trying at least, once i pointed out THEIR mistake.

There is now a few good tutorials around the net, giveaways nowadays are not what they used to be.

Make sure your using a good script, Scott Case does a good one, make sure that you don't use the scripts emailer system and that the script can hook into aweber or getresponse, something that isnt hosted on your own domain. Do use its automation, e.g it sends out the emails when people join, dont contribute and update their account, thats fine but mailing to a few hundred people the scripts usually dont have a funnel, Hostgator allows 500 emails per hour, Make sure you can do OTO's don't necessarily need to be about over supply, i went to one giveaway where the guy had over 200 products on his oto for $5 then when you went into his site he had a ton of free gifts from himself, then the gifts from the contributors were repeats from the owner.

Now you must also remember that most people are lazy, or they lack experience, the giveawaymanager script as soon as i see that i remove my account, with that script its good cause it stops lazy people but, you sometimes really need to work at it as a contributor, for example

launch day you need 2 subs
day 2 you need to have 5 subs
day 3 you need to have 10 subs
and so on, and if you dont get that amount of subs on them days your gift gets removed, but they still get the subscribers you sent to them.

If your going to promote to your list the event, and they kick you out, you have just sent people that take action to their list making your list less valuable.

Then theres the people who pay for the upgrade, dont promote jv partners, dont promote members, expect 1000s of subscribers and commission left right and center, then when they dont they open up a paypal dispute saying you didnt deliver.

make sure that in your TOS you have a no refunds policy, put it in the footer, in your emails, on your site when they login, nowadays giveaways wont bring you in what they used to, remember you might be promoting to newbies, but your promoting your list to the same list as other contributors are promoting theirs, as giveaways you all almost share the same list, if you dont believe me just do a google search for something like

    Powered By Giveaway Riches
    Powered By Giveaway manager
    etc etc

or one of the other scripts, then take the first few lines and do a google search for that page as well, you will see hundreds of pages pop up and most of them will have the same products, the same contributors.

Also don't get fooled into thinking that if a so called "Guru" is part of your jv that you will do any better, all these newbies running these sites with these so called "gurus" building the "gurus" list with all the work from the newbie and their efforts. They are mainly leaching of the work of others and not really benefiting yourself when you host one of these.

These are just my thoughts, ive installed a few hundred jv scripts for people, ive contributed and ran my own jv's, participated in them etc.

When you do setup your giveaway, make sure you have a funnel setup to seperate the tyre kickers and freebie hunters.

I mean break up your autoresponder.

    Giveaway AR everyone goes into
OTO AR those that upsell leave the giveaway and go into the oto ar

thats you already seperated your freebie from your buyers

then you have a prodcut setup, low end product say $27 with an upsell on it
you send that to your giveaway ar and seperate them buyers into your buying list your always taking people out of your giveaway ar and putting them into your buying lists, your buying list is the one you setup and you treate like gold, with the giveaway ar, setup a series of messages :

Thank you for joining, if i can be of any help then do let me know, you can also add me to your messengers and chat me back

next message, hows it going, did you get access to the site, if you have any problems do let me know, here is a free report i got on doing these, and in your free report you have a link to an upsell

etc etc, your always trying to build a relationship, offer awesome services, and products, and upsell, its easier to sell to your buddy than it is to a stranger.

Myself i giveaway products, i offer them the resale rights so they can host it themselfs but i also offer them the hosted solution (My Affiliate Program) where they can sell keep 100% on the front, earn 50% on the back, and build my list of buyers.

I hope that helps a bit

    James

And if i can be of any help, it only takes a second to ask.

    Hi Marilyn

Not a problem, as long as your aware of what it used to be like and what its like now you really should do good, motivate your jv partners, email blasts, special deals etc and keep in contact with them also check their products, some people will add the same product that they have done in 20 other sites, no good for you cause it turns your giveaway into another junk site.

    Hi James

    Good stuff.

Marilyn, please don't be like one giveaway promoter recently on the scene who's sending out up to 4 emails a day. He's wondering why his list is decreasing every day!

    Hi Keepitsimple

In what sense? If your going to do a giveaway and you want it to be a success, don't follow what everyone else is doing, in that sense i mean, change the content of the site, reword it, re do the emails, make sure your hosting knows your doing one and that you have the required bandwidth, get some banners created, signup for a twitter account, create a blog and keep everyone informed at what your doing, make it easy for people to use, create your own landing pages for contributors, then you know your getting a good standard, also add a footer link to them back to your site, have an autoresponder setup, dont host one on your domain, try and use aweber or getresponse, don't install the script today and start the giveaway next week, create free reports that link back to your site, have rebrandable reports as well, get free downloads on your blog so it gets people back to it, make sure you have a pre launch signup, add some good gifts and resources in it until the launch, give ideas to people on where to promote.

Create a video about your giveaway, get it on youtube then add that to your contributors advertising package, look around at other people who have hosted their giveaways, invite them as a contributor to yours with a free paid upgrade in your system, maybe a link or free ad on your site. Join some other giveaways with a freebie and the link back to your own giveaway.

If you take your time doing it and dont take short cuts you can really make a good go at it, if you supply crap gifts, don't change the content, have the same junk as everyone else showing on your gifts page honestly don't expect too much.

Remember its your giveaway, dont be afriad to tell people to either change their gift cause you noticed it on a few hundred more giveaways, or at least add some bonuses and change the picture.

You will know the contributors who i am talking about, just search the giveaways, open about 20 tabs of giveaways, and look at the contributors, they all use the same picture, they all give the same gifts and hope to build a list of the newbies on the site wanting to promote and make a name for themselves.

Don't be afraid to give value to anyone who subscribes, if you are seen to stand out from the rest of "Marketers" who buy the script for $67 (Goto the warrior forum and search out the wso for the scripts instead of buying them outside the warrior, you will get them cheaper) then you will build a better quality of relationship with subscribers. Don't just sell sell sell, yeah build a relationship, let people get to know you, get to trust you, let them see your generous and out to help them, your kindness will come back to you in abundance.

Don't let the lazy contributors get away with it, sponge of you or anything like that, setup rules so that everyone at least needs to make a tweet, post or email for contributors and members.

Give plenty of notice so they have time to book you into their mailings.

These are not definitive, these are just my experience from doing giveaways, contributing and being a member.

    Thanks James...

Not only "Don't be afraid to give away value..." You absolutely must.

Brett Mc Fall is so on top of this issue and of course off line entrepreneurs have known this since time immemorial....creat Value, deliver Value to your target audience and you'll be in business forever...

This has all been great information. I teamed up with Jeffrey Palladino to put on my first giveaway, to get to know the ropes a little before my friends and I do ours. I'm learning a lot. It went live for contributors today and people are signing up. I am so very excited about it.

Thank you all for such great input. I really appreciate it.

Are you serious? 4 emails in one day? How does one think that would help?
