Hi
I thought I'd also share my story after reading Pinky2's story to which I can totally relate to as I lost my job begining of 2009 after I returned to work from 4months of maternity leave. Unfortunately renchment seems to have affected the whole world. I'm a qualified conveyancing secretary (property Law & Transfers) which was the highest in demand as well as highest paying secretarial job in South Africa when I studied it and I really enjoyed my job and thrived under the constant deadlines, challenges and pressure of the job but unfortunately when the global ressession hit the property market died with it and it left over 32 000 conveyancing secretaries out of of work. Fortunately I had experience with teaching ICDL (computer literacy) at a local college which I did in the evenings for quite a few years so I took the experience and knowledge that I had and started my own business at home teaching computer literacy. My business has done fairly well but living in a small town it only makes enough to cover my daily expences (groceries, petrol, rent, my kids clothes (they grow so fast), school fees) but not enough to cover my debt which is growing daily with the high interest and penalties that the creditors charge (credit cards, clothing accounts, personal bank loans). I'm also studyying further in IT I'm studying A+ at the moment and have taught myself some basic HTML. My passion is computers and I want to study as far as I can and is possible.
I've been scammed several times online by these so called work from home oppertunities and then I discovered surveys but most of the survey companies don't accept South Africans, I've done a bit of Freelancing work on some freelance sites but the competition is very stiff for very low pay and my PayPal and bank charges are more than the payout. Then I tried Paid to sites that you to read email and clickthrough sites and ads but my internet bill cost me a thousand times more than what I earned. I clicked through over 10 000 emails etc which used 7Gigs of internet usage to earn $2 but my telecomunication costs before any phone calls are made is R750.00 ($110) per month!!!
Unfortunately living in South Africa is very costly we have the highest telecomunication tarriffs, highst bank charges, interest rates, cost of electricity, cost of petrol in the world and we are only a third world country. and now on top of everything all the civil servants in South Africa are now stricking for higher wage increases so to accomodate their demands obviously the cost of everything is going to go up again.
I wish I could immergrate to another country but unfortunately you need money to do that - which I don't have.
Anyway long story short I desperately need to make an aditional income in order to survive and from what I've read internet marketing is the way to go so hopefully we can learn together and help each other out. I'm not afraid of work or learning I've been working my whole life since I was 14 years old, I got my first job as a runner (cleaning and resetting tables in a restaurant) at R5 an hour and I paid my own way through school and college so studying and working and raising a family all at the same time has become a way of life for me.
